Full Sail’s New IPA Pays Homage to the Hop Shooter

Courtesy of Full Sail Brewing Co
Shot through with four kinds of NW hops, Hop Shooter IPA is fully loaded with flavor

Hood River, Oregon – April 27, 2017 – Grab a fistful of ale! Full Sail Brewing Company’s new Brewmaster Reserve Hop Shooter IPA was dry hopped with four varieties of Northwest hops. This Chinook-forward IPA was “shot” with more than 1.5 pounds of hops per barrel delivering intense piney aromas complemented with hints of tropical fruit. Moderate bitterness balances a foundation of Pale and Crystal malts resulting in a very drinkable IPA.

“We chose to showcase the dank and resinous Chinook hop in this IPA to pay homage to our pneumatic hop cannon, now referred to as the Hop Shooter,” says Full Sail Brewing Supervisor Greg Doss. “While exploring different methods for dry hopping our beers, Lead Brewer Chris Davis developed this apparatus which allows us to shoot hundreds of pounds of hops over 35 feet, vertically, into the top of the fermenter.”

Hop Shooter pairs well with charred, grilled burgers and steaks with caramelized onions, baked salmon with lemon, and spicy steak tacos with lime and cilantro. Try it with fried chicken, mozzarella sticks with spicy marinara and calamari with spicy dipping sauce, Indian dishes like green curry, medium to strong pungent blue cheese, or arugula salad with citrus vinaigrette.

Award winning? Heck yeah. Incredible ingredients? Definitely. Full Sail’s Brewmaster Reserve series is small-batch, limited-edition beer made by brewers with an unwavering desire to make the best beer around using locally grown malt, hops, yeast and pure Mount Hood water. Brewmaster Reserve Hop Shooter IPA is available May through September, in 12 oz. bottle 6-packs and draft. 6.7% ABV, 67 IBUs. Full Sail’s Brewmaster Reserve – innovation, inspiration and Ridiculously Tasty Beer!

Tick, Tick, Tick. It’s Time To Get Fresh IPA from Fort George

Courtesy of Fort George Brewing Co
September 8th, 2016 - Astoria, OR

The Northwest is a special place for craft beer enthusiasts and late summer is a very special season. Fresh hops are harvested only once a year – you can feel it when the air turns sticky. And at Fort George the moment those hops leave the bine, that brew clock for Fresh IPA starts ticking.

Logistically it takes the entire brewery to make Fresh IPA. Tanks need to be empty and waiting. All brewers are on standby, rested, and ready for around-the-clock brew cycles. The truck driver eagerly checks his phone for the call – the hops are being harvested.

After a quick round-trip from Astoria to Woodburn, OR and back, the block oozes with the aroma of over a ton of wet Amarillos. Brewing non-stop until the tanks are filled, no hop is spared and no moment is wasted.

Courtesy of Fort George Brewing Co

How Fresh is Fresh IPA?
Plucked from the fertile hop bines of the Willamette Valley, packed into the tanks at Fort George Brewery, and delivered to your local pubs and bottleshops all within a fortnight – Fresh IPA is as fresh as it gets. Brewed with wet Amarillos from Crosby Hop Farm, fresh hops mean bold and unblemished hop oils, the essence of the Pacific Northwest sealed into every can.

When you break the seal you should expect pungent notes of orange and grapefruit. Pouring a pale yellow with delicate white lacing, Fresh IPA will envelope your tongue in a tangerine wave, calmly ebbing as you await that next sip.

Availability
Look for Fresh IPA in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho starting Thursday, September 15th in 16-ounce 4-pack cans and on tap. 6.4% ABV – IBUs, who cares? Fort George is distributed exclusively in the Pacific Northwest.

Drink fresh, do not age, and buy it quickly. This limited release won’t last long.

Oskar Blues Brewery Releases Passion Fruit Pinner IPA

Courtesy of Oskar Blues Brewery
Longmont, CO, Brevard, NC & Austin, TX -- Oskar Blues Brewery is twisting up a PINNER for beer drinkers to lust after this summer with its Passion Fruit PINNER Throwback IPA strain, the sultry spinoff to the brand's existing PINNER Throwback IPA. The limited release brew will launch at the end of June and will blaze in all 50 states where Oskar Blues CANs are sold.

Passion Fruit PINNER IPA (4.9% ABV, 40 IBUs) accentuates the passion fruit and citrus juice attributes of the original PINNER and cranks them up to 11. The clean malts with hints of toasted biscuit pair with zesty hops to spice up the taste and aromas from immense additions of pureed passion fruit and a small spike of pureed Blood Orange.

"Passion fruit is very prominent in PINNER Throwback IPA's dry-hopped flavor spectrum, locking in on that and accentuating it alongside the existing mouthfeel and clean malt characteristics is a natural extension of what this beer is all about," said head brewer Tim Matthews. "Melding fruit aromas and flavors with a lower ABV beer creates a killer light and refreshing Passion Fruit Pinner IPA for getting after it this summer."

Ecliptic/Wicked Weed/Stone Points Unknown IPA Released Today

A Barrel-Aged Beer LITERALLY Unlike Any Other:
Ecliptic/Wicked Weed/Stone Points Unknown IPA

ESCONDIDO, CA (May 11, 2015) — In recent years, barrel-aged beers have become some of the world’s most coveted creations. Crafting them typically involves sequestering heavy stouts or barley wines in whiskey barrels for long periods of time. It’s a straightforward and successful method utilized by many in the brewing industry. But sticking to “straightforward” isn’t what Stone Brewing Co. is about…especially when it comes to Collaboration beers. Starting today, fans can look forward to a truly unique West Coast imperial IPA blended with a Belgian-style tripel that was aged in reposado tequila barrels previously used to mature red wine. That limited offering, Ecliptic/Wicked Weed/Stone Points Unknown IPA, (made possible with the help of two renowned craft breweries) will start arriving in 22-ounce bottles and on draft to select retailers in markets where Stone beer is sold.

Courtesy of Stone Brewing Co
Craft beer enthusiasts have a quartet of noteworthy brewers to thank for this one-of-a-kind brainchild, starting with Stone Brewmaster Mitch Steele. When considering who to team with for the latest Stone Collaboration, he looked to two polar-opposite points spanning the American brewing landscape—Portland, Oregon and Asheville, North Carolina. Like Stone’s San Diego County home, these locales are considered hotbeds of craft beer ingenuity, thanks in part to the respective contributions of John Harris from Ecliptic Brewing, and brothers Luke and Walt Dickinson of Wicked Weed Brewing. The former held court as one of the Pacific Northwest’s best and longest-tenured brewers for a quarter century before opening Ecliptic, while the latter are the creative duo behind one of North Carolina’s most experimental, buzzworthy brewing outfits. These brewing powerhouses from points far removed joined forces to take this collaborative recipe to points unknown.

“I don’t think I could have asked for a more talented and fun group of collaborators to work with,” said Steele. “John is one of my oldest friends in the industry, and I really respect the ingenuity Luke and Walt have shown through the beers coming from Wicked Weed. When we were exploring recipe ideas, it was unknown for all of us exactly how well a double IPA would play with a Belgian tripel, but we decide to give it a shot. Now, having tried the final beer, we are really impressed with its uniqueness and complexity. It turned out to be a great representation of all our philosophies.”

The beer incorporates two disparate styles—a hop-forward, distinctly American IPA and a fruity Belgian tripel, both brewed with blue agave nectar—with influence from red wine- and tequila-saturated oak. It begs the question: What does this taste like? Tropical fruit aromas and flavors come courtesy of hop bursting, which is used to extract maximum character from a mixture of Amarillo, Calypso and Jarrylo hops late in the brewing process. The hoppiness is given brilliant depth care of banana and estery qualities produced by a Belgian yeast strain during the tripel’s fermentation. Subtle tannic, berry-like flavors and additional red wine notes are present from the triple-use barrels. Amazingly, the flavors blend seamlessly without competing in the glass.

To fully experience the massive hop presence, Ecliptic/Wicked Weed/Stone Points Unknown IPA should be enjoyed fresh; however, the beer may also be stored at proper cellaring temperatures (55°F or lower). How long can it be aged? It’s hard to say. And what will it taste like? Just as the case was when it was first brewed, we don't know, so consider its aged manifestation yet another point of the beer’s intriguing unknowns.

Stone Brewing Go To IPA Released Today

ESCONDIDO, CA (March 3, 2014) – Intensely hopped and big-flavor brews are known to be quite the passion for Stone Brewing Co . Taking another step in their lupulin obsession, the craft beer company is pleased to introduce Stone Go To IPA. This vibrant hop-bursted session IPA is the tenth addition to Stone’s year-round lineup and, starting today, fans will be able to find the new release in 12-ounce bottle six-packs and on draft at retailers in all of the states where Stone beer is distributed.

Stone Go To IPA is 4.5 percent alcohol by volume (ABV) and, therefore, considered a “session” beer. Session beers are defined as ales or lagers below five percent ABV, which allows for greater drinkability within a reasonable stretch of time. Stone Go To IPA is a very refreshing beer, loaded with intense peach, citrus and melon aromas and all the complex hop flavor that Stone IPAs are known for…meaning, it’s a hop bomb.

To achieve these glorious hop qualities and still maintain a low ABV, a technique called “hop bursting” was implemented. This contemporary approach involves infusion of a massive amount of hops during the final phase of the brewing process to coax out the robust flavors and aromas of the hops. Stone Go To IPA achieved its fruity, citrus notes by dry-hopping with mostly Mosaic and Citra, plus a complimentary addition of Cascade hops.

“Hop bursting really helped us overcome the challenge of making a lower alcohol full-flavored brew that doesn’t taste thin or watery,” explained Stone Brewmaster Mitch Steele. “By using this method, we created an intense hop aroma and flavor along with a smoother bitterness. We’re thrilled to add this to our regular lineup, especially since most of us at Stone are ready to call this our own personal ‘go-to’ beer.”

Stone Go To IPA is brewed with nine different hop varietals and meant to be consumed fresh or within 90 days, before the bountiful hop characteristics fade. The session IPA will be available all year long, so IPA enthusiasts and curious craft beer novices alike will be able to satisfy their appetite for the almighty hop with this everyday go-to ale.

Stone Go To IPA Quick Facts:

SteeleTasting notes, provided by Stone Brewmaster Mitch Steele
Appearance: Pours light gold with a white head.
Aroma: The hop aromatics are mind blowing. Intense peach, citrus and melon flavors dominate the aroma in the best possible way.
Taste: Hop flavors continue to dominate, but are balanced by just enough malt to keep things reasonably in balance. But make no mistake, this beer is very, very hop-forward!
Palate: Dry and bitter, the finish makes you want to drink more!
Overall: This beer employed the hop bursting technique, which in essence is a hopping method where all or most of the bitterness in the beer comes from late hop additions in the brewhouse, like at the end of boil and in the whirlpool, instead of the more traditional approach where most of the hop bitterness comes from earlier additions at the start of the kettle boil. The result is a beautifully aromatic beer with substantial, but somewhat mellow, bitterness. The hop bursting also enhances the flavor retention of the hops, and combined with the dry hop, creates a very intense and complex hop flavor.
creates a very intense and complex hop flavor.
Suggested pairings, provided by Stone Craft Beer Ambassador "Dr." Bill Sysak
Appetizers: Chips and salsa, ceviche, Cajun shrimp, oysters on the half shell, Buffalo-fried cauliflower
Soups and Salads: Cheddar cheese soup, tortilla soup, miso soup, Thai salad with peanut dressing, cucumber and mint salad
