Oskar Blues Releasing Hotbox Coffee IPA

Courtesy of Oskar Blues Brewery
Longmont, CO, Brevard, NC & Austin, TX – Oskar Blues Brewery, the original innovators of craft beer in a can, are making strange bedfellows of uppers and downers again.

Hotbox Coffee IPA (7.2% ABV, 70 IBUs) combines a burst of pine, citrus and mango from simcoe hops and blends them with a cold brew extract from Hotbox Roasters' Ethiopian beans, which bring cream, blueberry and cocoa notes to the mix. The beans were sourced from a family farm in the East African nation exclusively for this beer.

Hops and coffee = the perfect odd couple.

“We believe the citrus and fruit aromatics of an IPA, derived from the intense hops, pair well with the fruit of the coffee to produce a great, flavor-packed beer,” said head of brewing operations Tim Matthews. “The combination of coffee and hops in the Hotbox IPA serve to compliment and reinforce the delicious flavors and aromas both offer in this match up.”

Since the in-house coffee roasters at Hotbox Roasters share a space in Oskar Blues Brewery’s Longmont facility, it was a no-brainer to go back to the mat and follow up on the fall seasonal, Hotbox Coffee Porter.

“Teaming up with Oskar Blues to make an IPA is a great opportunity to show off the versatility of Ethiopian coffee beans,” said Matt Herren of Hotbox Coffee Roasters.  “I had just 'cupped' this Ethiopian coffee and was blown away by the obvious aromas of fruit: bright cherry, blueberry, and citrus jumped right out of the cup.  Since Tim enjoys Ethiopian coffees I knew the fruit-forward qualities of this particular one would make an awesome IPA.”

Hotbox Coffee IPA will feature as Oskar Blues’ new spring seasonal in cans from March to May; replacing GUBNA Imperial IPA, which will shift to a limited, national draft-only release with 12 oz. cans only available for retail in the ColoRADo and North Carolina Tasty Weasel taprooms.

Oskar Blues’ three taprooms will each host simultaneous release parties to launch the Hotbox Coffee IPA.

Hotbox Coffee IPA will be available in all 50 states on draft and in 4-pack 12 oz. cans beginning in March. Beer drinkers looking for a unique mix of uppers and downers can hop on over to oskarblues.com/beerfinder to locate their nearest watering hole or store carrying the new brew.

Dale's Pale Ale Becomes Nation's Bestselling Craft Can Six-Pack As Oskar Blues Brewery Grows in All Directions in 2016

Courtesy of Oskar Blues Brewery

Longmont, CO, Brevard, NC & Austin, TX - Oskar Blues Brewery, the innovators behind the craft beer-in-a-can apocalypse, finished 2016 strong eclipsing 200,000 barrels shipped with several significant milestones achieved throughout the year including the addition of a brewery in Austin, several new SKUs, expansion of its barrel-aging program and the completion of its U.S. footprint. Flagship brew Dale's Pale Ale became the bestselling craft can 6-pack in total U.S. Food.

In August of 2016, Oskar Blues' brewery and live music venue opened its doors in Austin, TX while a 21,000 square foot expansion took place in its Brevard, NC brewery raising the potential capacity amongst all three breweries to 500,000 bbls and adding 43 jobs. The brand also completed its 50 state U.S. footprint with distribution in Montana and further expanded internationally with the addition of Australia, the Netherlands, and Belgium, totaling nine international markets.

Oskar Blues continued to push innovation through new beer offerings and packaging.  The Can gROWLER (CROWLER®) from Ball Corporation and Oskar Blues grew to over 1,000 installations to date.  Many of the last year's installations were due to new locations choosing aluminum over glass for their growler choice and many established locations discontinued offering glass growlers altogether.  CROWLER® has quickly shown how far cans have come and how beneficial the evolution of CROWLER® cans are to the growler customer.

The brewery launched four new SKUs, including year-round offerings BEERITO Amber Mexican Lager and Priscilla White Wit Wheat, while launching limited release cans of Passion Fruit Pinner IPA and Hotbox Coffee Porter. The expansion of its barrel-aging program resulted in national distribution of Barrel-aged Ten FIDY Imperial Stout in 19.2 ounce, single-serve cans and limited taproom-only releases of rum barrel-aged Death by Coconut, rum barrel-aged Ten FIDY and Java Ten FIDY. The team at Oskar Blues didn't stop there, recently launching Pinner Throwback IPA in new packaging - resulting in the first American craft beer 16-pack**.

Ancillary brands also saw growth, including four new flavors of B. Stiff & Sons Old Fashioned Soda Pop and the launch of new Oskar Blues Fooderies concepts in its home market of ColoRADo, which includes a CHUBurger/Hotbox Roasters Café brick and mortar location in the RiNo district of Denver.

Oskar Blues Holding Company, a strong group of craft brewers, including Wasatch Brewery, Squatters Brewery and Perrin Brewing furthered its mission to maintain symbiotic partnerships with like-minded craft brewers across the country with the addition of Tampa's Cigar City Brewing. While Dales Pale Ale is the bestselling craft can 6-pack in the U.S., Cigar City has the number two spot, with Jai Alai IPA.  Oskar Blues Holdings grew collectively to nearly 350,000 barrels and is the number two overall craft can vendor and number 15 overall in total U.S. Food.  That's a particularly good spot to be in, as craft cans have been up 55% over the last 52 weeks.

Oskar Blues continued to spread do-goodery with its nonprofit arm, CAN'd Aid Foundation. In 2016 alone, the organization raised $768,000, built & donated nearly 600 bikes to underprivileged children, put 100 instruments in budding musician's hands, recycled 155,000 lbs. of waste through its #CrushItCrusade and donated 330,000 cans of drinking water to areas in need including Flint, Michigan during its water crisis. Soul-founder of Oskar Blues Dale Katechis founded CAN'd Aid in 2013 following the Colorado flooding that devastated Oskar Blues Brewery's hometown in Lyons, Colorado. To date, over $2.6 million has been raised to support its efforts.

As for 2017, Oskar Blues has already set its sights on further growth, celebrating the 20th year of what started as a funky little brewpub in Lyons, CO in 1997. International markets to launch distribution in include Brazil and Japan. The brew team, not to be outdone by 2016, has announced the limited release of Hotbox Coffee IPA cans in March as well as a CANspiracy rare beer club at the North Carolina and Colorado Tasty Weasel Taprooms.  The Oskar Blues Fooderies restaurant group has already announced a Colorado Springs, CO location that will expand its footprint to over nine locations in 2017.  - stay tuned for more details at  www.oskarblues.com.

Oskar Blues Brewery Sponsors Pink Boots Society Tour to Germany

Brewery Behind First Craft Beer-in-a-Can Partners on Tour to Assist, Inspire, & Encourage Women Beer Professionals

LONGMONT, CO, BREVARD, NC & AUSTIN, TX- The craft beer-in-a-can pioneers' do-goodery goes international in sponsoring the Pink Boots Society's (PBS) Cultural Emersion Tour to Gemütlichkeit, Germany, the Heart of Bavaria for the Beer, Bratwurst and Beyond Tour from October 14 to 22, 2016. Sponsorships from Oskar Blues, Boston Beer Company and Sierra Nevada, among others, allowed 10 women to receive full scholarships for the program and provide them with invaluable opportunities to further their education within the craft beer industry.

Tristan Chappell, Assistant Cellar Manager at Oskar Blues Brewery in Brevard will be joining the adventure to learn about German brewing practices, tour female owned & operated breweries and network with other women in the beer industry.

"In an industry primarily dominated by men it is important to find a network of strong women to lean on for support and encouragement," said Chappell. "The Pink Boots Society has played a big role in my professional success and I am looking forward to immersing myself in the different brewing processes and practices in Germany and spreading the Oskar Blues gospel overseas."

Pink Boots Society is an international nonprofit that works to inspire, encourage, educate and help women succeed in the craft beer industry. This insider's tour begins in Frankfurt, and winds through idyllic Bavaria and Franconia with stops along the way at small family-owned breweries, established breweries, some "radical" breweries, hops farms, and many other places of interest to beer lovers, especially those with an interest in southern German beer culture beyond Oktoberfest.

"When the opportunity came our way, I knew immediately it was something that we wanted to be involved in," stated Diana Ralston, Director of Sponsorships at Oskar Blues Brewery. "With only 18 percent of our industry represented by women, we need to do what we can to support and educate those of us who are involved and continue to provide unique opportunities for growth."

Tristan has been a member of the Brevard team since it opened its doors in 2012. While her background was in blacksmithing and metal fabrication, after working in the taproom at Oskar Blues she developed a passion for craft beer and was given the opportunity to pursue her dream of being involved in its production. Tristan spent her days off learning the brew process and in less than a year of working at Oskar Blues, she moved her way up from beer tender to Assistant Brewer in the cellar.

"There's no one more deserving or better to send on this trip than Tristan," said Dale Katechis, soul founder of Oskar Blues Brewery. "She's been kicking ass for our North Carolina team since day one and her passion for life and all things craft beer is infectious."

Chappell's work has contributed to the explosive domestic growth Oskar Blues has experienced in the past year. The brewery completed its U.S. footprint in 2016 and recently announced the launch of distribution in Puerto Rico, Spain, Chile, the Netherlands, Belgium, Brazil, New Zealand and Japan.

Oskar Blues Brewery Releasing Death By Coconut

Courtey of Oskar Blues Brewery

LONGMONT, Co., BREVARD, N.C. and AUSTIN, Tx. - The nut is back. Oskar Blues Brewery's cult classic Death By Coconut Irish Porter returns to store shelves and taps across the nation this month.

Death by Coconut (6.4% ABV/25 IBUs) is a semi-sweet porter made from loads of dark chocolate and extra dark caramel malt. It pours a rich velvet black with a frothy head and exudes intense fresh cacao flavors swirled with popping coconut aromas.

"Take a porter with crème brulee, burnt sugar, and rich caramel profile and blend it with heaps of coconut and chocolate and Death by Coconut is born," said head of brewing operations Tim Mathews.  "The chocolate comes from Cholaca - a Boulder, ColoRADo-based company bringing in fair trade cacao and liquefies it.  We then swirl the Cholaca around in the finished beer and drop it on top of tons of coconut to create a crazy delicious beer treat."

Cholaca is a form of pure liquid chocolate that contains only three ingredients: cacao, water and coconut sugar. Cholaca adds a rich and smooth chocolate touch that makes this beer liquid perfection. Using only fair-trade cacao beans sourced from select farms in Ecuador and Peru, Cholaca gives it the most authentic flavor kick.

Death by Coconut, awarded the 2014 GABF Silver Medal in the Chocolate Beer category, hits shelves nationally in 4-packs of 12-ounce CANS and on tap at your favorite bar beginning this month. Oskar Blues Brewery and Hotbox Roasters Hook Up Again For Hotbox Coffee Porter

Courtesy of Oskar Blues Brewery
Longmont, CO - Beer just got a caffeinated kick in the beans.

Oskar Blues Brewery and their in-house, coffee addiction-inspired Hotbox Roasters tag-team once again to pair roasted aromas, flavors and a frothy buzz together in Hotbox Coffee Porter.

Hotbox Coffee Porter (6.4% ABV/30 IBUs) has a malted base extracted from English and German roasted and caramel malts, and is comprised of flavors like roasted nuts, crème brûlée, cocoa and caramel. Hotbox Roasters then crashes the party and infuses potent, cold-extracted coffee from Burundian and Ethiopian beans and deals old flavors and aromas of dark plums, chocolate and hints of blueberry.

"Hotbox wake-n-roast gets us rolling in the brewhouse day in and day out." said head of brewing operation's Tim Mathews. "Hotbox Porter shows that beer and coffee were meant to be together.  Digging in with Hotbox Roasters allowed us to develop a malt blend and a coffee blend that gel beautifully."

Hotbox Roasters is a ColoRADo craft coffee roaster specializing in the highest quality, fair-trade coffee beans available to coffee fiends nationwide (http://hotboxroasters.com/store/).  Hotbox currently offers eight different roasts from around the world and is constantly searching for premium beans to add.  Hotbox Roasters cans its freshly roasted beans using the Oskar Blues & Ball Corporation Crowler™, a one-use, recyclable can that is filled and seamed right on location at the Hotbox Roasters Dock in Longmont, ColoRADo.   An Oskar Blues Fooderies-driven Hotbox Roasters physical location will open at 3490 Larimer St., Denver, CO in fall 2016. This will be the first location for the Longmont-based craft coffee roaster and will open directly next to the upcoming craft casual CHUBurger location in the Denver RiNo neighborhood.  Stay tuned for 12oz. cans of Nitro Cold Brew from Hotbox Roasters yet this year.

Brought to you by the original craft beer in a can, Hotbox Coffee Porter is available nationally in four-pack, 12 oz. cans and draft from September through November.

Oskar Blues Brewery's Award-Winning Ten FIDY Imperial Stout Returns

Courtesy of Oskar Blues Brewery
News flash.... Summer is comin' to a close. That means fall, colder weather, shorter days... sad times indeed. BUT if there's one thing that can warm you (and your belly) up it's the release of Oskar Blues Brewery's giant fuhCAN Ten FIDY Imperial Stout.

The 10.5% ABV half-baked, but fully-roasted dark mouth bomb is consistently rated as one of the best of its style around (100 ratings from both Beer Advocate and Rate Beer) and the 2016 edition is just as kickass as usual.

"Ten FIDY is the perfect illustration of the how good the malt we use really is," Tim Mathews,
head of brewing operations, said.  "Shipped direct to the brewery from the Simpsons Malthouse in the UK; the roast, chocolate, espresso, and burnt sugar really pop.  It's a bear to brew and tests the brewer at every step, but all the sweat and tears are worth it!"

Ten FIDY is a complex beer. Like a Rubik's Cube. It continually brings a new experience for the drinker every time. Each sip or sniff can evoke a different appearance, aroma, and mouthfeel while never departing from the quality and consistency that Oskar Blues Brewery brings to every batch of beer.

It's complicated and that's a good thing.

This is an immensely viscous stout loaded with inimitable flavors of chocolate-covered caramel and coffee underneath a smooth blanket of malt. This brew is constructed with colossal amounts of two-row malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley, flaked oats and hops. And at 10.5% ABV you won't forget you're drinking a big, bold, badass beer that is #NeverTheSameStout.

Courtesy of Oskar Blues Brewery
Look for Ten FIDY in four-pack, 12-ounce cans and on draft in all 50 states where Oskar Blues Brewery is sold from September through March only.(check out our Beer Finder at www.oskarblues.com/beerFinder).

Oskar Blues Brewery Releases Passion Fruit Pinner IPA

Courtesy of Oskar Blues Brewery
Longmont, CO, Brevard, NC & Austin, TX -- Oskar Blues Brewery is twisting up a PINNER for beer drinkers to lust after this summer with its Passion Fruit PINNER Throwback IPA strain, the sultry spinoff to the brand's existing PINNER Throwback IPA. The limited release brew will launch at the end of June and will blaze in all 50 states where Oskar Blues CANs are sold.

Passion Fruit PINNER IPA (4.9% ABV, 40 IBUs) accentuates the passion fruit and citrus juice attributes of the original PINNER and cranks them up to 11. The clean malts with hints of toasted biscuit pair with zesty hops to spice up the taste and aromas from immense additions of pureed passion fruit and a small spike of pureed Blood Orange.

"Passion fruit is very prominent in PINNER Throwback IPA's dry-hopped flavor spectrum, locking in on that and accentuating it alongside the existing mouthfeel and clean malt characteristics is a natural extension of what this beer is all about," said head brewer Tim Matthews. "Melding fruit aromas and flavors with a lower ABV beer creates a killer light and refreshing Passion Fruit Pinner IPA for getting after it this summer."

Longmont, CO & Brevard, NC & Austin, TX - Oskar Blues Brewery, the brewery that launched the craft beer-in-a-can apocalypse in 2002, announces the national launch of an AmeriCAN take on the Belgian Classic Wit, Priscilla White Wit Wheat. It's a Belgian White, Belgian Wit, Belgian Wheat...it's a White Wit Wheat (5.2% ABV, 20 IBUs).
