NINKASI BREWING COMPANY BECKONS AN EARLY SPRING WITH THE RETURN OF SPRING REIGN

Returning to Ninkasi’s Seasonal Release Series, Spring Reign is Available Now Through May!

EUGENE, Ore.—Feb. 26, 2014Despite what Punxsutawney Phil says, Ninkasi Brewing Company is calling for an early spring with the return of its Seasonal Release Series beer, Spring Reign.

As a celebration of change year-round, Ninkasi’s Seasonal Release Series offers five exciting, yet familiar styles, available each for a limited time throughout the year. Brewed with quality ingredients, including water from Oregon’s own McKenzie River, Northwest hops, and regionally-sourced malt, each beer style captures the mood of the season and brings about change in each pint – and Spring Reign is no exception.

“This seasonal beer is a perfect transition into the spring months with a toasted malt profile that creates a dry finish, making the bright citrus and floral hops spring off the tongue,” describes Jamie Floyd, founding brewer and co-founder of Ninkasi.

The recipe for Spring Reign started being developed even before Ninkasi itself was born. When Biscuit malt was first introduced to the U.S., Floyd began experimenting with it, which developed into his first professional beer recipe. Based on that first recipes’ malt build and current hop varieties, Spring Reign was born and has been a returning Spring favorite of Ninkasi and its customers since 2009.

“Spring Reign has the same base grain bill [as the original recipe] but is a little bigger in alcohol and paired with different hops at a higher IBU,” says Floyd. “Sometimes simple is better and here is a great example.”

Available each year, Spring Reign returns to the shelves and draft, now through May.

Spring Reign Stats

Description: A lightly toasted British-style malt flavor is balanced by bright Northwest-style hops. Spring forward with this refreshing seasonal ale. Notes of toasted malt up front, with a bright and crisp Northwest hop finish, it’s a session beer that everyone can enjoy!

Tasting Notes: Like many Ninkasi beers, this is an ale more than a specific style, though we put it in the Northwest Pale category. A light toasted malt flavor is more reminiscent of a British Pale, but the hops are bright and very Northwest. Flavorful and easy to drink!

Food Pairings: Salads, Soups, Poultry, Fish, Cheese Plates, Dried Fruit

BRIDGEPORT BREWING LAUNCHES YEAR-LONG HOP CZAR IPA SERIES

BRIDGEPORT BREWING LAUNCHES YEAR-LONG HOP CZAR IPA SERIES

PORTLAND, Ore.February 25, 2014 BridgePort Brewing Company, Oregon’s oldest craft brewery, has added a new Hop Czar IPA Series to its lineup of handcrafted brews. The original Hop Czar Imperial IPA, first released in 2008 as a limited edition brew, was an adventurous and boldly hop-centric brew for BridgePort. But as the enthusiasm of hop-happy beer drinkers grew, it quickly proved to be much more than a niche ale. Hop Czar soon became the brewery’s co-flagship beer. Inspired by the original Hop Czar’s legacy of experimentation, the Hop Czar IPA series will feature three hop-forward craft beers, each brewed in Portland and released sequentially throughout the year. “The original Hop Czar was born out of experimentation, pushing the limits of hoppy flavor and aroma,” said Jeff Edgerton, BridgePort’s Brewmaster. “With the new Hop Czar IPA Series, my brewers and I have the chance to continue experimenting with the Willamette Valley’s incredible hop varietals to create three new and innovative IPAs this year.”
The first offering in the series is the Citra Dry-Hopped IPA that showcases the intense aroma and flavor of the Citra hop varietal.  This new brew adds a decidedly American twist to a British original, combining the complexity of English malts with a heavy dose of Citra hops from Oregon’s Willamette Valley.
While Edgerton and his team of brewers will create three adventurously hoppy IPAs in the spirit of the Hop Czar Imperial IPA, it doesn’t mean that the original recipe is gone for good. Edgerton continued: “It may return in its original incarnation, slightly modified, or completely overhauled. It all depends on what we learn from our experiments with other regional hop varietals and how our fans respond to the new ales.”

2014 STONE OLD GUARDIAN BARLEY WINE RELEASED

MAKING ITS YEARLY DEBUT:
2014 STONE OLD GUARDIAN BARLEY WINE RELEASED

ESCONDIDO, CA (Feb. 24, 2014) – Stone Brewing Co. is celebrating the release of its big, malty, fiercely hopped strong ale: 2014 Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine. Beginning today, eager consumers and collectors may pick up a bottle of this annual release at retailers in select markets across the country.

Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine is a brawny beer with a rich malt backbone and assertive New World hop profile. The beer pours a burnt amber color with strong citrus and tropical fruit aromas. Its flavor is rich and malty, displaying hints of molasses and brown sugar up front, with apricot and pine notes in the finish.

“Each year, the beer’s recipe is slightly adjusted to allow us to play with different malt and hop varieties,” explains Stone Brewmaster Mitch Steele. “All in all, I aim for the same end result: a well-rounded, complex beer that’s ready to drink now or age at cellar temperatures for many years.”

Fans may enjoy 2014 Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine now, or properly store it to enjoy in the future. Over time, the hoppiness of the beer will fade and its initial sweetness will smooth out, transforming the beer into a much different, even richer and more refined brew.
