February 7th Bottle Release

Join us Saturday February 7th as we release three bourbon barrel matured beers from our cellars; Super Nebula, Kriek, and Super Nebula Coffee with Elijah.  All beers have been bottle conditioned in our new 500ml format.  Please read below for information on each beer, limits, brunch reservations, and Three-liter availability.   This release is a part of bourbon month at Block 15 and Les Caves.  In addition to the bottles we will have all beers on tap, a nice bourbon menu, and food specials featuring bourbon in the recipes.  Friday February 6th, Les Caves will  feature a barrel matured beer event with over a dozen beers.

Super Nebula

Each year we mature Super Nebula, our imperial version of Nebula stout, in unique bourbon casks before selecting origin specific cocoa nibs to complement the blend.

Episode VI
2014 Super Nebula was matured in Heaven Hill distilleries bourbon barrels layering characters of dark oak, vanilla, bourbon and coconut.  Fresh roasted organic cocoa nibs from Ecuador and Nicaragua were added during conditioning lending notes of toffee, hazelnut, and rich Dutch cocoa.
11.25% ABV, $11, Limit 5

Super Nebula, Coffee With Elijah

Our brewers selected and matured this special edition of 2014 Super Nebula in a single twelve-year-old Elijah Craig bourbon cask and then conditioned on freshly roasted organic cocoa nibs from Ecuador and Nicaragua and a cold extraction of premium coffee beans.  The beans, Benevolence blend and single origin Ethiopian Yirgacheffe were hand roasted by Mud River Roasting, and selected for their unique dark chocolate, toasted nut, and blueberry profiles.
11.25% ABV, $12, Limit 1

Kriek, A Three Summers Cuvee

Early in the summer The Cherry Country delivers fresh picked Montmorency cherries from their orchard to our brewery.  Our brewers immediately pack these tart red beauties into first and second use Kentucky bourbon casks before filling them with Enchanted, our open fermented Oud Bruin. Each autumn we blend three seasons from select barrels marrying fresh and mature cherry notes with gentle bourbon, oak, rich malt, and balancing acidity.
7.75% ABV, $12, Limit 3

3 Liter Bottle Lottery

When bottling the Kriek and Super Nebula this year, we also packaged some large format 3 liter bottles.  We will be raffling off the opportunity to purchase them for $90 per bottle of Kriek, or $90 per bottle of Super Nebula.  To be entered in the lottery, please go to www.block15.com/bottlerelease by January 15th at 6pm and select the 3 liter release lotter.  You will be informed if you were selected on Friday January 21st. Bottles can be picked up Feb. 7th, or arrangements can be made for a later date.

Bottles Available At 11am

When we open for regular business at 11am we will have enough bottles at the above limits for at least 50 people in line. There should be enough Super Nebula for more than 70 people in line. We will also have hot coffee, high fives, and Super Nebula doughnuts made by our friends at NutCakes for those waiting in line.

Brunch! 9am-10am (Reservations Required)

We have two options for you to enjoy the morning of the release. A confirmed brunch reservation includes the right to purchase all bottles up to the limit amount. As our releases have become more popular we are continuing a lottery system. It is our hope that everyone who wants a reservation is able to secure one. Stone Brewing Co. Introduces Stone Delicious IPA, a Gluten Reduced IPA

Press Release:
ESCONDIDO, CA (Jan. 5, 2015) – Since 1996, Stone Brewing Co. has been obsessed with its mission of providing people access to high-quality, big-character craft beer. After all, great beer is for everyone and anyone with the good taste to recognize it. With that goal in mind, the company is introducing Stone Delicious IPA, a citrusy ale dry-hopped exclusively with El Dorado hops. As if that wasn’t enough, the beer has also been crafted to reduce gluten. Starting today, Stone Delicious IPA will begin arriving in 12-ounce six-packs to retail accounts and on draft1 to restaurants and bars where Stone beer is sold.

A few years back, Stone CEO and Co-founder Greg Koch proposed developing a beer delicious enough to warrant making that its formal name…a lofty challenge coming from the man in charge. Koch also requested that the beer be brewed with ample amounts of new and unique hop varietals. After many trials, Brewmaster Mitch Steele finally tasted a hop flavor combination that lived up to that moniker.

El Dorado hops were added late in the boil, both abundantly and exclusively during the dry-hop stage, providing the beer with prevalent herbal, citrus and lemon-candy flavors and aromas. An earlier hop addition of a new variety called Lemondrop complemented the El Dorado hops perfectly, enhancing the beer’s bold lemon taste. Stone Delicious IPA has a mild, dry malt character and the copious hop traits of a traditional West Coast IPA.

Steele has taken Stone Delicious IPA a step further by creating a beer that may make it possible for individuals sensitive to gluten, or anyone looking to reduce their gluten intake, to experience Stone’s aggressive, no-holds-barred approach to craft brewing. With the addition of an enzyme from San Diego-based White Labs called Clarity-Ferm, gluten protein chains are broken down, separated and denatured to measure below 20 parts per million². This process, which is initiated during the beer's fermentation, does not affect its color or, more importantly, its wonderful aroma and decidedly delicious flavor.

White Labs tests the gluten levels of each batch, and Stone publishes the results on the beer’s dedicated webpage. To further ensure levels remain constant, Stone’s Quality Assurance team also monitors the beer by testing samples at different stages of the production process—from fermentation through packaging.

“My father-in-law is a big fan of craft beer and was recently diagnosed with a gluten intolerance,” explains Steele. “With Stone Delicious IPA, I’m thrilled that we’ve made it possible for more people, especially my father-in-law, to enjoy a delicious, hoppy Stone craft beer.”

When crafting an IPA deserving of the name Delicious, intense flavor was paramount, and that’s just what this bright, hoppy, lemony standout delivers. Stone Delicious IPA should be enjoyed fresh, and all bottles will feature an “enjoy by” date on the bottle neck.

Tasting notes, provided by Stone Brewmaster Mitch Steele
Appearance: Pours deep gold with a white-colored head.
Aroma: Spicy, herbal and citrusy hop aromatics balanced with light-toasted malt. The spiciness is reminiscent of lemongrass.
Taste: The hop flavors really explode with a dominant flavor that reminds many on the brewing team of a lemon Starburst candy!
Palate: Medium body with a bitter, dry finish.
Overall: We went through many iterations of this beer at our Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens – Liberty Station restaurant and brewery, using several hop recipes until we had that “Aha!” moment tasting a beer that I had asked Liberty Station Brewing Manager Kris Ketcham to brew. It was a single-hop beer called the Lost City of Liquid Gold, using 100 percent El Dorado, a new hop from Yakima, Washington. This beer gave us the last piece to the puzzle on the formulation for Stone Delicious IPA. We changed the dry hop to 100 percent El Dorado, and we achieved magnificent lemon candy and spicy hop flavors that are fun and unique.

Press Release:
Chico, CA—January 5, 2015—Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. is debuting two year-round beers in early 2015: the intensely hop-heavy Hop Hunter IPA and the sessionable Nooner Pilsner. The brewery will also unveil its newest spring seasonal selection, Beer Camp Hoppy Lager, for a total of three brand-new beers for craft drinkers to explore.

Hop Hunter IPA features oil from wet hops steam distilled in the hop field, minutes after harvest—for the first time, drinkers can taste wet-hop character year-round. This pure, powerful hop essence is used alongside traditional hops to create the ultimate IPA experience. Hop Hunter IPA will be available year-round in 12-ounce bottles and on draught.

Alongside Hop Hunter IPA, Sierra Nevada will introduce its first year-round lager with Nooner Pilsner. Nooner is a refreshing and aromatic German-style pilsner that’s easy-drinking yet full of spicy and floral hop flavor from the use of whole-cone European hop varietals. Available on draught, in six-pack bottles, and in twelve-pack cans, Nooner is the perfect way to kick off an afternoon of adventure.

Beer Camp Hoppy Lager rounds out Sierra Nevada’s new releases for early 2015. Beer Camp is the ultimate brewing experience. Sierra Nevada invites beer fans to the brewery nearly every week to create a collaborative beer, and each spring, they will release one of the highlights from the past year. This year’s hoppy lager is a reimagined encore of the hop-forward collaboration with San Diego’s Ballast Point that was a part of the incredibly popular Beer Camp Across America mixed pack.

“We’ve been incredibly busy designing and tweaking all of these new beers” said Ken Grossman, Sierra Nevada’s founder. “Our brewhouses have been going round-the-clock perfecting the recipes and it has been really fun to explore the limits of hops. I’m really excited about the work we’ve done on Hop Hunter. We’re no stranger to experimental hops and hopping techniques, but developing distilled wet hop oil is unlike anything we’ve tried. The results are amazing.”

All of these new releases will be widely available throughout the Sierra Nevada distribution footprint and can be found using the brewery’s Beer Locator.
