Sierra Nevada Unveils Two New Product Launches For January 2017

Courtesy of Sierra Nevada Brewing Co
CHICO, CA — October 3, 2016 — Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. announced two new products to hit the market in Q1 2017: Sidecar Orange Pale Ale and Tropical Torpedo IPA.  With nearly 5,000 craft breweries in operation in the United States, Sierra Nevada ranks third in annual volume with products like Pale Ale and Torpedo IPA leading the charge.  “Innovation is part of our DNA,” says Ken Grossman, founder of Sierra Nevada.  “36 years ago we changed the way Americans look at hoppy beer with Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.  In 2017 we’ll be doing it again, with fresh takes on beer styles that we helped pioneer: pale ale and IPA.”

Sidecar Orange Pale Ale is the perfect accompaniment to Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.  Made with orange peel and bold, citrus-heavy hops, this 35 IBUs and 5.3% ABV addition is a refreshing twist on the classic pale ale.

Using the proprietary dry-hopping device – the “Hop Torpedo” – Sierra Nevada is able to control how much hop aroma is infused into beer without adding additional bitterness.  Tropical Torpedo IPA is prime for new drinkers entering the craft beer market via the IPA style.  “A lot of the excitement is coming from IPA styles utilizing intense aromatic hops that deliver notes of exotic fruits," says Brian Grossman, second generation brewer for Sierra Nevada.  “The rush of hop flavor and lush aromas of mango, papaya and passionfruit awaken your senses with our most adventurous IPA yet.”  This IPA has no fruit added and weighs in at 6.7% ABV and 55 IBUs, making it a truly sessionable beer fit for a variety of drinking occasions.

Sidecar Orange Pale Ale will be available January 1, 2017, in 6- and 12-pack 12 oz. bottles at retail and on draught in the on-premise.  Tropical Torpedo IPA launches January 1, 2017, in 6-pack 12 oz. bottles only, with draught to follow late Q1.

Sierra Nevada’s Brewmaster Steve Dresler Announces Retirement

Courtesy of Sierra Nevada Brewing Co
Chico, CA—July 8, 2016— Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.’s Brewmaster, Steve Dresler, has announced that he plans to retire next year.  Dresler has been in charge of Sierra Nevada’s brewing program since the early 1980s, after joining Sierra Nevada in 1983.

Under Dresler’s direction, Sierra Nevada won eight World Beer Cup awards and 31 GABF medals.  He has overseen the development and production of almost all of their new beers for more than 30 years.  Last year, the Brewers Association awarded him the Russell Schehrer Award for Innovation in Brewing, an honor selected by a committee made up of members of the BA’s advisory board.  Sierra Nevada is the first and only two-time winner of this award.

Of Dresler’s retirement, Sierra Nevada founder Ken Grossman said, “It’s bittersweet.  Steve is an iconic figure in our brewery and in the industry.  His talent and personality are legendary, and he has set the tone in our production department for years.  I wish him all the best in this much-deserved retirement.”

Although Dresler will work into 2017, Sierra Nevada will post the Chico head brewer position immediately in order to allow time for an extensive search, as well as for Dresler to help train the selected candidate.

CHICO, Calif., May 9, 2016 – Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. introduced its six Beer Camp Across America 2016 collaboration beers at retail and select draught locations nationwide today. The highly anticipated beers were developed by 31 collaborating breweries from across the country. Each unique beer was brewed by a regional team of five breweries and Sierra Nevada to represent the styles of the breweries and ingredients from their region.

“We created Beer Camp Across America to be a true national celebration of craft beer,” said Sierra Nevada Founder and President, Ken Grossman. “As part of that, we brought our fellow brewers and friends who share our passion, admiration and bold approach to pushing brewing boundaries along for the ride.”
The 2016 Beer Camp Across America collaboration will be sold as a 12-pack, containing two beers of each limited-edition style (SRP: $28.99–$29.99). Various beer styles will also be available on draught nationwide.

West Latitude Session Rye with Hibiscus (5.5% ABV) – A Session Rye combining a Hawaiian influence of hibiscus with California’s love of hops.
·        Moxee-Moron Imperial Session IPA (7.5% ABV) – A style contradiction honoring the Pacific Northwest’s hop-bomb heritage.
·        Family Values Imperial Brown Ale (8.5% ABV) – An Imperial Brown Ale that embodies the togetherness of the Midwest and its native flavors, including wild rice, honey and cocoa nibs.
·        Stout of the Union Robust Stout (7.3% ABV) – The ultimate combination of rich and roasty malt flavors from our Southern California friends.
“Leveraging decades of experience, these celebrated beer pioneers tinkered with flavors, explored native and exotic ingredients and poured heart and soul into the process,” said Sierra Nevada Vice President, Brian Grossman. “Camaraderie resulted in truly exceptional brews. We’re all looking forward to sharing these beers with our fans and celebrating these collaborations at festivals across the country this summer.”

Sierra Nevada will take the beers on the road this June via a six-city tasting festival tour hitting Tampa, Fla.; Seattle, Wash.; Milwaukee, Wis.; San Francisco, Calif.; Boston, Mass.; and Los Angeles, Calif. Every craft brewer in the nation is invited to pour at the festivals, with the lineup already including more than 500 different breweries from across the country. Proceeds will be donated to local brewers’ guilds and other nonprofits to encourage continued hops research and help ensure a supportive future for craft brewers across the nation. Sierra Nevada Partners With Bamberg, Germany's Mahrs Bräu On New Oktoberfest Beer

Courtesy of Sierra Nevada Brewing Co
Oktoberfest fall seasonal will feature a different German partner each year

Chico, CA— April 26, 2016—Sierra Nevada is pleased to announce Bamberg, Germany’s Mahrs Bräu as their brewing partner for this year’s Oktoberfest seasonal beer. Released each fall, Sierra Nevada’s Oktoberfest collaborative seasonal will feature a different German brewery every year. The partnership blends centuries of brewing tradition with modern spirit, giving craft drinkers the ultimate Oktoberfest, a festival beer unlike any they’ve experienced in the US.

Last fall, Sierra Nevada’s owners, Ken Grossman and Brian Grossman, travelled to Upper Franconia, a Northern Bavarian region in Germany, to meet with the venerable brewers and found plenty of common ground with the Mahrs Bräu team. “We’re impressed by their commitment to quality, as well as their inventive spirit and eye toward creative and interesting beers,” said Brian Grossman.

Like Sierra Nevada, Mahrs Bräu is a privately-held, family-owned brewery. Founded in 1670, Mahrs Bräu is now owned by the Michel family and run by Stephan Michel who represents the fourth generation of the family. Mahrs Bräu is highly regarded for their traditionally styled lagers, but also for their technical precision and willingness to experiment. In 2007, Mahrs Bräu was named the “Best Brewery in the World” by Men’s Journal magazine. In 2010, Mahrs was awarded the gold medal at the European Beer Star awards for their “Festtags Weisse” beer and in the same year, then owner Ingmar Michel was awarded the prestigious “Bayerischen Bierordens” medal for brewing excellence. Mahrs Bräu also has a commitment to environmental responsibility and participates in the strict Bavarian Environmental Pact.
Courtesy of Sierra Nevada Brewing Co
“We’re excited to be working together with Mahrs Bräu,” said Ken Grossman, “We have so much in common with them in the way we approach brewing, and the way we run our businesses. We’re both independent, family-owned breweries with a respect for tradition, yet we’re not handcuffed by it. We’re not afraid to innovate and to change things up. We both care deeply about the environment, and work to make our respective beers with a mindful eye on how that impacts the world around us.”

The Sierra Nevada and Mahrs Bräu collaboration Oktoberfest will hit retail shelves in August. The beer will be a traditional festival lager featuring the nearly forgotten “Record” hop varietal and lean heavily on the rich and layered malt complexity found in the best authentic festival beers.

Sierra Nevada Brewing Launching Otra Vez a Gose-Style Ale With Cactus

Courtesy Sierra Nevada Brewing Co
Chico, CA—November 18, 2015—Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. is launching Otra Vez, an incredibly refreshing gose-style ale that will join the brewery’s year-round lineup. Craft drinkers can find Otra Vez on retail shelves starting January 2016.

Otra Vez means “another time,” and for Sierra Nevada that time is early California when beers were made from local ingredients. The brewery trialed various native produce searching for great flavors. Prickly pear cactus flourishes in the state’s arid deserts, and grapefruit fills the Central Valley’s flats. Together their fruity-tangy blend makes Otra Vez, whose tartness is true to the gose style, pop with character.

“We wanted to make one of the easiest drinking craft beers out there, and funny enough Otra Vez has been a bear to get just right,” said Ken Grossman, Sierra Nevada’s founder. “We brewed several test batches a week for nearly a year, and even delicate changes made a big difference. Then it all clicked with perfect balance and complexity. We think folks will really enjoy it.”

Otra Vez clocks in at a sessionable 4.5% alcohol by volume, and its extremely low bitterness allows the prickly pear cactus, grapefruit and pinch of coriander to shape a bright and refreshing finish.

Otra Vez will be available throughout Sierra Nevada’s nationwide distribution footprint in 12-ounce bottles, 12-ounce cans and on draught. Craft drinkers can track it and other Sierra Nevada beers down using the brewery’s Beer Locator.

SIERRA NEVADA PARTNERS WITH 600-YEAR-OLD BRAUHAUS RIEGELE
ON BRAND NEW OKTOBERFEST BEER
Oktoberfest fall seasonal will feature a different German partner each year
Chico, CA— June 29, 2015—On a trip to Germany this spring, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. finalized its inaugural partner, Augsburg’s Brauhaus Riegele, for a brand new Oktoberfest beer. Released each fall starting in 2015, the collaborative seasonal will feature a different German brewery every year. The partnership blends centuries of brewing tradition with modern spirit, giving craft drinkers the ultimate Oktoberfest, a Bavarian festival beer unlike any they’ve experienced in the US.

Family owned like Sierra Nevada, Brauhaus Riegele has brewed excellent craft beers since 1386, and more than 600 years later, its innovation earns accolades including 2015 Craft Brewer of the Year at the Meininger International Craft Beer Awards. Just as Sierra Nevada’s Ken and Brian Grossman lead as a father-son team, Brauhaus Riegele has a father-son duo at the helm. Its 27th generation Master Brewer Dr. Sebastian Priller-Riegele works alongside his son Sebastian Priller-Riegele, a World Champion Beer Sommelier, to brew a lineup of beers that together have earned more than 200 awards and medals stateside and abroad. Their brewmaster, Frank Muller, has won the German Government’s “Bundesehrenpreis” award for quality seven times—every year it’s been given.

“We’re honored that Brauhaus Riegele, a real cornerstone of German craft brewing, is kicking off this Oktoberfest collaboration with us,” said Ken Grossman, Sierra Nevada’s founder. “We’re both family owned, our children are hands on, and we share a passion for great beer. We’re aligned in so many ways, and we’re excited about the outstanding beer that’s emerged.”

Courtesy of Sierra Nevada Brewing Co
“For years we’ve followed the great development of Sierra Nevada and we are really impressed by Ken and Brian’s fantastic beer culture,” said Sebastian Priller-Riegele, Brauhaus Riegele’s marketing manager. “We are really looking forward to sharing this outstanding beer together that shows our passion and dedication to the art of brewing. It’s an honor to work with Sierra Nevada.”

The Sierra Nevada and Brauhaus Riegele collaboration Oktoberfest will hit retail shelves in August. It will only be distributed in North America, although Brauhaus Riegele fans in Germany need not worry. The two breweries are collaborating on a separate barrel-aged beer to be brewed and aged on site at Brauhaus Riegele’s traditional Bavarian sudhaus.

SIERRA NEVADA LAUNCHES 2015 WITH THREE ALL NEW BEERS

Introducing two year-rounds (Hop Hunter IPA, Nooner Pilsner) and a Beer Camp seasonal

Press Release:
Chico, CA—January 5, 2015—Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. is debuting two year-round beers in early 2015: the intensely hop-heavy Hop Hunter IPA and the sessionable Nooner Pilsner. The brewery will also unveil its newest spring seasonal selection, Beer Camp Hoppy Lager, for a total of three brand-new beers for craft drinkers to explore.

Hop Hunter IPA features oil from wet hops steam distilled in the hop field, minutes after harvest—for the first time, drinkers can taste wet-hop character year-round. This pure, powerful hop essence is used alongside traditional hops to create the ultimate IPA experience. Hop Hunter IPA will be available year-round in 12-ounce bottles and on draught.

Alongside Hop Hunter IPA, Sierra Nevada will introduce its first year-round lager with Nooner Pilsner. Nooner is a refreshing and aromatic German-style pilsner that’s easy-drinking yet full of spicy and floral hop flavor from the use of whole-cone European hop varietals. Available on draught, in six-pack bottles, and in twelve-pack cans, Nooner is the perfect way to kick off an afternoon of adventure.

Beer Camp Hoppy Lager rounds out Sierra Nevada’s new releases for early 2015. Beer Camp is the ultimate brewing experience. Sierra Nevada invites beer fans to the brewery nearly every week to create a collaborative beer, and each spring, they will release one of the highlights from the past year. This year’s hoppy lager is a reimagined encore of the hop-forward collaboration with San Diego’s Ballast Point that was a part of the incredibly popular Beer Camp Across America mixed pack.

“We’ve been incredibly busy designing and tweaking all of these new beers” said Ken Grossman, Sierra Nevada’s founder. “Our brewhouses have been going round-the-clock perfecting the recipes and it has been really fun to explore the limits of hops. I’m really excited about the work we’ve done on Hop Hunter. We’re no stranger to experimental hops and hopping techniques, but developing distilled wet hop oil is unlike anything we’ve tried. The results are amazing.”

All of these new releases will be widely available throughout the Sierra Nevada distribution footprint and can be found using the brewery’s Beer Locator.

Sierra Nevada Releasing Snowpack A Mixed Seasonal 12-Pack.

SIERRA NEVADA FENDS OFF THE COLD WITH BRAND NEW “SNOWPACK”

Press Release:
Chico, CA—October 1, 2014—Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. filled its third and final seasonal mixed 12-pack of the year with beers that ward off winter’s bite. Aptly named, Snowpack features two brand new beers and two steadfast recipes. The variety pack starts heading to distributors this week and will be available through January 2015. Whether harnessing the comfort of coffee or borrowing a little bit of summer from the Southern Hemisphere, Snowpack helps uplift those hunkering down for the storm.

  • Boomerang IPA is a blend of American brewing style with Southern Hemisphere flavor. Sierra Nevada added heaps of vibrant Australian hops to this bold beer. With a light, balanced malt body and compelling floral and fruity hop aromas, Boomerang is an intriguing international spin on the classic IPA.
  • Coffee Stout combines the best of Sierra Nevada’s two favorite brews—coffee and beer. The brewery blended the hearty flavors of coffee with dark roasted malts to create a complex and layered mix of dark chocolate, caramel and light fruity notes punctuated with a roasty, dry finish for the perfect cold-weather drink.
  • Porter was part of Sierra Nevada’s inaugural lineup decades ago. Its big malt flavor earned it permanence, and craft drinkers continue to relish the rich, bittersweet and roasted gem. Medium bodied and balanced by crisp American hops, Porter is a great finale to a long winter’s day of work.
  • Pale Ale began as a home brewer’s dream, grew into an icon, and inspired countless brewers to follow a passion of their own. Its unique piney and grapefruit aromas from the use of whole-cone American hops have fascinated beer drinkers for decades and made this beer a classic, yet it remains new, complex and surprising to beer drinkers every day. It is—as it always has been—all natural, bottle conditioned and refreshingly bold.
“This mixed pack is a fun cross section of our brewery, a bit of a timeline” said Ken Grossman, Sierra Nevada’s founder. “I remember roasting malted barley in my own kitchen in the early days of Porter, and today we’re using coffee to create really complex flavors. I took road trips in the 70s to get my hands on Cascade hops, and here we are teaming up with friends in Australia who are growing new and exciting varieties. Snowpack shows how fun of a ride craft beer continues to be.”

As Snowpack makes its way into stores, folks can track down the variety pack using Sierra Nevada’s Beer Locator. The brewery is dialing in its 2015 lineup, which will weave in a fourth seasonal variety 12-pack to fill the calendar with even more diversity for craft drinkers

SINGLE, FRESH, WET & WILD HARVEST FESTIVAL

Fresh Hop season is my favorite time of the year. Fresh hop beers will be hitting the shelves and taps soon, and fresh hop Festival's will be taking place. Here is one announced from Sierra Nevada, happening on October 18th.

SIERRA NEVADA ANNOUNCES SECOND ANNUAL
SINGLE, FRESH, WET & WILD HARVEST FESTIVAL
Press Release:
Chico, CA—August 28, 2014—Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. will host its second annual Single, Fresh, Wet & Wild® Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 18, at its brewery in Chico, Calif. The acclaim from hop heads after the inaugural 2013 event inspired the beer festival’s return as a yearly fixture. Single, Fresh, Wet & Wild celebrates the fall US hop harvest, and Sierra Nevada anticipates more than 50 breweries from across the country will together provide a beer lineup that showcases:
  • Single hop beers: Features only one hop variety
  • Fresh hop beers: Uses dried hops that are picked, shipped and added to the brew kettle within weeks of hop harvest
  • Wet hop beers: Uses un-dried hops that are picked, shipped and added to the brew kettle within days of hop harvest
  • Wild hop beers: Features hops found untamed in nature. At the inaugural Single, Fresh, Wet & Wild, Sierra Nevada poured a beer made using wild hops from nearby Whitmore.

“Our excitement for this beer festival starts right now,” said Ken Grossman, Sierra Nevada’s founder. “We’re watching our estate hops reach their peak, and we head to the Yakima Valley in a few short weeks to get our hands on the first hops of the season. We’ll run into our brewing friends there, and we’ll have fun imagining the great beers to come, some of them folks will be able to try at Single, Fresh, Wet & Wild.”

With great anticipation American craft brewers await hop harvest season, with their hauls from the fields helping them design and plan beers for the year ahead. The more than 3,000 US craft breweries are an inspired bunch, using more hops in more ways than ever before—an ambition that helps steer the exciting evolution of beer ingredients. Single, Fresh, Wet & Wild is a snapshot of and a salute to the brewer ingenuity that’s shaping the tastes of drinkers nationwide.
