pFriem Family Brewers Announces Spring Beer Releases

 Courtesy of pFriem Family Brewers
New seasonal lineup features light yet complex flavors for Spring

March 29, 2018 – Hood River, Oregon – Excitement is mounting for the new Spring releases from pFriem Family Brewers on the heels of the brewery’s big wins at the Oregon Beer Awards. The brewery took top honors including “Brewery of the Year” in the large brewery category and “Best Brewpub Experience” for the fourth year-in-a-row. pFriem’s Spring seasonals are complex, light, and super flavorful: perfect for after mountain bike rides, hikes, gardening, and barbecuing. Cheers to the Spring season!
While pFriem will produce over 100 artisan beers in 2018, and release 15 beers in Spring, here are descriptions of some of this season’s highlighted releases: Bright Pale, Helles Lager and Saison.
Bright Pale – Building on an already great tradition of American Pale Ales, Bright Pale is bursting with fruity, tropical brightness. It has notes of white grapes, pineapple, and pine and tropical aromas of honeydew melon and passion fruit that lead you to a crisp, fruity, and clean finish. With Warrior, Simcoe, Calista and Hallertau Blanc hops, and Rahr Pale Malt, Gambrinus Pilsner and Carapils malts, this one comes in at 5% ABV and 33 IBUs. One sip will brighten anyone’s day!
Helles Lager - In 19th century Germany, pilsners were all the rage so Munchen brewers created a malty hoppy beer of their own called Helles. pFriem Helles Lager builds on that history with a toasty lager that’s savory and smooth with aromas of fresh bread and a hint of honey. So let’s toast this beer’s storied and delicious history with a hearty, “Helles Yeah!” With 4.8% ABV and 25 IBUs, this special brew features Weyermann Pilsner, Weyermann Barke Pilsner and Acidulated malts and Perle and Tettnang hops.
Saison- Back in the early 20th century, farmhouses in Wallonia, the French-speaking region of Belgium, would brew this beer in the winter, only to be consumed in the summer by their farm hands called Saisoners. These beers are known for being tart, lite on the palate, dry, fruity and complex. pFriem Saison is a fragrant ale ready to warm any palate with tropical notes of guava and kumquats. Featuring Gambrinus Canadian Pilsner and Gambrinus Wheat malts and German Tettnang, Sorchi Ace and Motueka hops, Saison has an ABV of 6.5% and 32 IBUs.

Full Sail Releases Citrus Maxima Pale Ale

Courtesy of Full Sail Brewing Co
One Sip and Citrus Maxima Will Be Your Main Squeeze
Full Sail’s new tart and juicy citrus pale ale hits shelves this month

Hood River, Oregon – March 22, 2018 – Here at Full Sail Brewing Co., when life gives us citrus, we make Citrus Maxima Citrus Pale Ale. Maximum citrus levels of grapefruit, pomelo, citrus peel and – of course – hops, make Citrus Maxima a balanced and refreshing pale ale.

The brewers at Full Sail have a zest for life – and beer. In case you were wondering, Citrus maxima comes from the scientific name of the pomelo, one of the three primary ancestors of citrus fruits. Playing on this, as well as the unique grapefruit-like character of pomelo, Citrus Maxima is an easy-drinking pale ale that’s well stocked with Simcoe and Citra hops, while fresh pomelo and grapefruit peels lend citrus and grapefruit notes.

“This was a fun project, but certainly complicated and labor intensive at this scale,” says Full Sail Brewmaster Greg Doss. “Our goal was to blend aromas from citrus-forward hops with fresh grapefruit and pomelo in a refreshing and drinkable pale ale. I think we did it.” You’ve heard of dry hopping – so why not dry peeling? “Hundreds of pounds of fresh citrus peel are infused into each batch,” says Doss, “but it’s worth it.”

Oregon’s Hop Harvest Shines in Full Sail’s 8 Pound Pale Fresh Hop Ale

Courtesy of Full Sail Brewing Co
Farm to tank in three hours, 8 Pound Pale explodes with bright tropical notes

Hood River, Oregon – September 13, 2017 – Full Sail Brewing Co. is excited to release this year’s Brewmaster Reserve 8 Pound Pale Fresh Hop Ale, brewed with eight pounds of local, freshly harvested Centennial hops per barrel. Full Sail brewers Chris Davis and Greg Doss drove to B&D Farms in Saint Paul, Oregon on harvest day last month to procure fresh, wet hops from the field, immediately heading back to the brewery to work their magic on this small-batch brew that goes from farm to tank in three hours.

“This year’s 8 Pound Pale Fresh Hop Ale explodes with bright tropical notes,” says Full Sail brewer Greg Doss. “A blend of pale and wheat malts created a light golden base which we packed with Willamette Valley-grown Centennial Hops, only hours off the vine. Beautiful fresh-hop aromas of tropical fruit and citrus are complemented nicely with subtle malt notes. This refreshing beer is high on hop aromatics yet well balanced.”

Brewmaster Reserve 8 Pound Pale is a hop lover’s delight. Each fall, Full Sail brewers look forward to brewing a fresh hop beer to celebrate the hop harvest, using eight pounds of fresh hops per barrel. Each hop variety reaches peak maturity at a different time during harvest, so each year’s brew is unique. Be sure to try this batch of 8 Pound Pale before it’s too late!

Full Sail’s Brewmaster Reserve series allows the brewmasters to put their creativity, innovation and passion into small, limited-release beers. These craft brews highlight the direct connection with Full Sail’s farmers, celebrate the art of barrel aging, and explore the effects of time. Over the years, Full Sail’s Brewmaster Reserve series has earned 26 gold medals. Some of our beers, like our fresh hop brews, are meant to be enjoyed just after harvest, intensely fresh from our farmers’ fields. Brewed in small batches, Brewmaster Reserve 8 Pound Pale Fresh Hop Ale is available in limited quantities from late September until it’s gone - in Brewmaster Reserve 6-packs, 12 oz. bottles and draft. 5.6% ABV, 54 IBUs.

Joey Harrington’s Collaboration with Full Sail is in the Red Zone

Courtesy of Full Sail Brewing Co
Proceeds of the bourbon barrel aged red ale benefit Oregon’s Harrington Family Foundation

Hood River, Oregon –August 10, 2017 – Joey Harrington led the huddle when Full Sail created his namesake beer. Developed and brewed with former Oregon Duck legend and NFL quarterback Joey Harrington, Harrington’s Bourbon Aged Northwest Red Ale is spicy sweet with a beautiful bourbon character and pours a deep earthy red. Harrington’s is the inaugural project in the brewery’s new Icon series, whose goal is to work with well-known influencers who share Full Sail's positive, community-minded, sustainability ethos, and to donate a portion of the proceeds to support cause-related missions.

“Collaborating with a local brewery that makes excellent beer was a way to have fun and do good,” says Harrington. “Not only does my love of smooth, balanced beer and of Oregon shine through with Harrington’s Northwest Red Ale, but through this project, Full Sail is also supporting my foundation.” Full Sail is donating a portion of proceeds from the sale of Harrington’s Bourbon Aged Northwest Red Ale to the Harrington Family Foundation, which provides collegiate scholarships and mentorship support to Oregon’s future leaders. “This beer is 100 percent in the red zone,” Harrington confirms.
Courtesy of Full Sail Brewing Co
Harrington and Full Sail Brewmaster Jim Kelter brewed this red ale with two-row pale, caramel red and caramel rye malts, along with nugget hops. “With 30 years of brewing behind us, it was a first to put someone of Joey’s stature ‘under center’ so to speak in our brewhouse,” says Kelter. “He deftly took the snap and the result is our Harrington’s Bourbon Aged Northwest Red Ale. This Imperial Red Ale, aged for months in Buffalo Trace whisky barrels, is deep red and offers aromas of vanilla, spice, and toffee.”

Harrington’s Bourbon Aged Northwest Red Ale made its debut at Portland’s Pearl Tavern, a joint venture in which Harrington teamed up with well-known names in Portland’s competitive restaurant environment to craft a family friendly, community atmosphere focused on quality food and drinks – and sports - with a percentage of profits benefiting his foundation.

“How could you not enjoy it?” Harrington joyfully asks of his new brew. “It’s the sweet nectar of life, and it’s for a good cause.” Harrington’s Bourbon Aged Northwest Red Ale is available for a limited time in 16.9 oz. bottles and on draft. 10.2% ABV, 39 IBUs.
