Press Release from the Lagunitas folks below. Check the video out:

As we approach the highest of holidays, we here at Lagunitas like to sit back, relax, and reflect on how we got here. How do we do that, you ask? By rolling one up and popping an oh-so-dank Waldos, of course!

Wayyyy back in 1971 some high-schoolers who were calling themselves the Waldos met one afternoon at 4:20 in the front courtyard of their school near the statue or Louis Pasteur. They set out in a ’66 Impala armed with a 'treasure map' on a journey to find a Secret Garden near Point Reyes. They met there at the same time everyday and continued their quest. They never found the Secret Garden... but they keep lookin'. A few years later a young man named Tony Magee was driving on those very same roads to his new brewery – Lagunitas. West Marin had become the birthplace for both the beer and the Waldos; and thus a delicious, heady brew was born.

Every year in April we invite the Waldos to help brew (and imbibe) our Waldos Special Ale; and while they may mumble a bit, the beer speaks for itself. We recorded the whole story, and our Founder Tony Magee and Beer Weasel Ron Lindenbusch will tell it to ya exactly as it happened, er, as best as they can remember it, anyway. Feel free to share this video far and wide, and best of luck to all the treasure hunters out there…

We didn’t stop with Waldos, though. From our SuperCritical beer to this year’s annual Seed to Sale Conference, we’ve been exploring the ever-growing relationship between Craft Beer and Cannabis, and couldn’t be more excited to tell you what we’ve been up to. You can find the transcript of Tony’s speech at the conference here, and for more information, drop me a line.

Wishing you a most excellent, Waldos-filled 4/20. Cheers!

We put our mad scientists to work recently & we pulled the terpenes from some of NorCal’s finest cannabis (sans THC) and brewed it with some of Yakima’s finest hops.

Brewers have long known about the close connection between cannabis and hops, and now, Lagunitas Brewing Company, with the help from our friends at CannaCraft’s AbsoluteXtracts, are announcing their twofold “SuperCritical” project for California-wide release.

+ SuperCritical Ale brewed with Cannabis Terpenes (no THC, just the aroma molecules) ABV 6.6%
+ Vape Cartridges with Hop Terpenes (these do have THC) using Lagunitas Hop Recipes

This new SuperCritical Ale, a part of our One-Hitter series, will be available only in markets across CA beginning this week and the vape cartridges will be available in appropriate outlets after that. (Dates for the cartridges are subject to AbsoluteXtracts' production schedule).

For more information, visit www.lagunitas.com/supercritical.

The receptacle might be different, but the hoppy goodness inside is still the same. 12th of Never, our first canned beer, is a moderate expression of everything we’ve learned about making hop-forward beers. At 5.5% ABV, it’s slammable and flavorful, without being too much.

Courtesy of Lagunitas Brewing Co
Lagunitas Brewing is releasing two new beers this month. 12th of Never Ale and Stoopid Witt. 12th of Never Ale is a new year-round beer and the first ever canned beer for Lagunitas, and will also be available on draft. Stoopid Witt is a limited release, available July through September and will be sold in 12oz bottles-6 packs and on draft.

Details from Lagunitas:

The magical, mystical 12th of Never is a blend of Old and New School hops that play bright citrus, rich coconut, and papaya-esque flavors, all on a solid stage of English puffed wheat. Tropically hoppy. Light, yet full-bodied. Bright and citrusy. The 12th of Never Ale is everything we’ve learned about making hop-forward beer expressed in a moderate voice.  Pale, cold, slightly alcoholic and bitter.  It’s all we know.

These 12oz mini-kegs (AKA cans) are an exciting new option for us, and we are stoopid stoked at the opportunity for y'all to take us to all those new, nelophobic locations…

Aunt Sally - Unique Dry-Hopped Sweet Tart Sour Mash Ale

We soured the wort on the Hot Side with Lactobacillus for a few days and then brewed up this smooth and hoppy sour. For all the Aunt Sally's out there, You know who you are...

Lagunitas Brewing's Born Yesterday Is Back!

Courtesy of Lagunitas Brewing Co
Lagunitas Brewing has released Born Yesterday its version of a fresh hop beer. Born Yesterday Fresh Hop Pale Ale was bottled and kegged and shipped yesterday (10/26), and should be showing up at better bottle shops and taprooms today and consumed fresh. This years version used fresh Amarillo, Equinox, Simcoe, Citra, Mosaic, and “Indigenous Catawampus” hops picked from Yakima, Washington and from the info we were given 11 pounds of hops were used during brewing per barrel.

Lagunitas getting fresh picked hops from Yakima,Washington

Thanks to Lagunitas, we got a bottle of 2015 Born Yesterday Fresh Hop Pale Ale to sample today. Last years version of Born Yesterday was easily a top fresh hop beer for us. Once again Lagunitas has another excellent fresh hop beer for 2015.  Born Yesterday Fresh Hop Pale Ale has aroma notes of fresh citrus, pine, and grass. While the flavor notes are similar with citrus, and pine.

Note that the 2015 Born Yesterday Fresh Hop Pale is part of the limited 2015 One Hitter Series of beers, so it will be a bit harder to find than the normal lineup of Lagunitas beers.  Please check the Lagunitas Finder Page to find out where you can find Born Yesterday.

Lagunitas Brewing has a new seasonal release hitting the shelves & draft now called Citrusinensis Pale Ale....Thanks Lagunitas for giving us the phonetic version of (SIH-TRUH-SIH-NEN-SISS) to help pronounce the name, because I'm pretty sure we will all butcher the name when asking for a pint or telling friends about it.
See the press release below from the folks at Lagunitas Brewing Co

Lagunitas Brewing Releases 2015 Imperial High West-ified Coffe Stout

Lagunitas Brewing produces some fine brews. I had the pleasure of visiting the huge Lagunitas brew campus on a trip to northern California last June. I also had the pleasure of hanging out with the Lagunitas folks last August at the Beer Bloggers Conference in San Diego.....Let me just say Lagunitas knows how to throw a party....and the version we attended was a tame one from what they told me. We really enjoy pretty much everything Lagunitas does.

The other day freshpints.com received a UPS shipping email from Lagunitas Brewing. The next day the beer mail arrived. Thanks, Lagunitas, for hooking up freshpints.com with a (full size) sample of the limited release of 2015 High West-ified Coffee Stout!  This beer is brewed with Petaluma Coffee & Tea Company coffee beans and aged in High West Distilling Barrels.

Lagunitas Brewing
Lagunitas barrel-aged beers usually don't make it to retail shelves. They are super-limited draft beers, that are usually only available at the Lagunitas Brewery or special draft accounts. That is, until now.

The 2015 High West-ified Coffee Stout is Lagunitas Brewing's first bottled barrel-aged beer,  with only 4500 cases being sent out this year. High West-ified will also be on draft, so look for it at a few lucky craft beer establishments.

Specs from the information they sent me on the Barrels and Coffee used in the 2015 High Wes-ified Coffee Stout.
ABOUT THE BARRELS
The spent barrels we chose held whiskey that went into High West’s Double Rye and American Prairie Bourbon.  As you know, when blending barrel-aged brews there’s a lotta different ways to do ‘em; look at the history of Belgian beer.  Sometimes it needs to be cut with un-aged beer to round out flavors.  Or to simply make it go a little further.  Not the case here.  Our High West-ified is 100% barrel aged.  No shortcuts.  Some aged 10 months, some only a couple.  All blended for just the right amount of oak and age flavor.  Yum.
ABOUT THE BEANS
We custom-picked a coffee blend with a local roaster, Petaluma Coffee & Tea Company, to compliment the flavors in this imperial stout.  It has a base of Mexican coffee that’s blended with Sumatra, Guatemala and Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Natural (which has heavy dark fruit notes).  All finished with an Italian roast to bring out the oils and a nice, dark flavor.  Yum, yum.
Lagunitas says High West-ified should be on lucky shelves soon-ish....and don't forget to check your local craft beer establishment - they may get lucky as well and get a keg so you too can enjoy a freshpint.
