May 15, 2017 – Bend, Oregon – Deschutes Brewery announced today it will introduce its beers to the entire state of North Carolina next month through a network of seven distributors. The Oregon-based brewery will partner with Caffey Distributing Company; Carolina Premium Beverage; Coastal Beverage Company; Healy Wholesale Company, Inc.; Long Beverage, Inc.; Skyland Distributing Company, Inc. and United Beverages of North Carolina, LLC.

Stacy Denbow, Frontier Region Director for Deschutes Brewery, said, “With the recent announcement of our second brewing facility and downtown tasting room in Roanoke, Virginia, it seemed logical to expand our consumer base to the craft-savvy state of North Carolina. We have been anxiously awaiting the opportunity to expand there for years.”

The seven distributors Deschutes Brewery has partnered with in North Carolina represent more than 300 years of combined beer-community building in the state. Most are family owned and operated, and all adhere to high standards of quality, customer service and employee relationships that align with the brewery’s own values.

Fans in North Carolina will be able to enjoy the brewery’s Fresh Squeezed IPABlack Butte PorterPacific Wonderland Lager and Hop Slice Summer Ale on draft starting next month. Shortly after the beer arrives, the brewery and its new distributors partners are planning several launch and community oriented events around the state. In August, six-packs will begin to hit shelves including all of the above beers, plus the brewery’s popular variety 12-pack.

Last year, the brewery announced it will build an east coast facility just one state away in Roanoke, Virginia. Starting in the early 2020s, this new facility will increase the brewery’s capacity by about 150,000 barrels to start. At its Oregon headquarters, the brewery recently expanded with six new fermentation vessels, a brand-new racking line, pilot brew system, office space and a new warehouse.

Deschutes Brewery to Open Tasting Room in Downtown Roanoke

Courtesy of Deschutes Brewery
Roanoke, VA – April 17, 2017 – Deschutes Brewery has unveiled plans to create a tasting room in downtown Roanoke. The Oregon-headquartered brewery, which announced it will be creating an east coast facility in Roanoke last year, is looking forward to sharing beers and interacting with local craft beer fans - as well as those who are visiting Roanoke and want to learn more about what Deschutes is all about - in the new space. The opening is tentatively slated for late August.

“Roanoke is home to us now and we wanted to put down some roots while we plan for breaking ground on our new brewery east of town,” said Nate Brocious, tours and tasting room manager of Deschutes Brewery. “Since we will not be breaking ground on our new brewing facility until 2019, we’re excited to take one of our first steps in becoming part of this awesome community by opening the new tasting room.”

The tasting room will be located at 315 Market St SE close to many local businesses, restaurants and hotels. Plans include more than 15 taps of Deschutes Brewery beers where patrons can share a pint or fill growlers, as well as purchase brewery branded merchandise. Details are still being finalized, but the space will likely include both indoor and outdoor seating and ready-to-eat foods crafted by local restaurants. The brewery will be hiring staff for the new venture in early summer. Once these positions are posted, applications will be accepted at www.deschutesbrewery.com/jobs.

In other area news, Deschutes is bringing its popular Street Pub event back to Roanoke on July 15 to support local nonprofits such as Roanoke Outside, Bradley Free Clinic, Pathfinders for Greenways and the Blue Ridge Land Conservancy. Last year, the event welcomed 22,000 people and raised $81,000 for nonprofit organizations. For more information on the Street Pub, visit www.deschutesbrewery.com/streetpub.

Deschutes Brewery Releases New Year-Round Lager: Pacific Wonderland

Courtesy of Deschutes Brewing Co
Bend, Oregon – Nearly 60 years ago, the motto “Pacific Wonderland” first showed up on license plates in Oregon in celebration of the state’s 100th birthday. Oregon is still a place full of wonder and adventure, and Deschutes Brewery bottled it up in a new sessionable brew befitting of the Pacific Northwest: Pacific Wonderland Lager.
Deschutes Brewery brewmaster Veronica Vega said, “When we set out to create Pacific Wonderland, we wanted to capture the diverse spirit of Oregon in a single beer that we could share with everyone. Our team explored something a little different, creating a lager by style and then dry hopping it to make something unique – just like our home state.”
Pacific Wonderland Lager is made with a pilsner malt and a trifecta of Hallertau Herkules, Hallertau Mettelfruh and Tettnang Mandarina hops. The result is a crisp, bright beer with citrus, floral and herbal hop flavors, a delicate malt body, and a crisp, clean lager finish.
The beer’s colorful label depicts the endlessly diverse adventures that Oregon offers in all seasons, helping bring Oregon to life all the way across the country. “Pacific Wonderland” is a nickname used by many who come to the Northwest to enjoy skiing, biking, rock climbing, surfing, standup paddle boarding, hiking, golf and more. The area’s diverse ecosystems and microclimates are ideal for all kinds of outdoor recreation – and craft beer-sampling. This beer captures it all.
Pacific Wonderland Lager is 5.5 percent ABV and 37 IBUs. It will first be available on draft and in 6-packs throughout the brewery’s distribution area, and 12-packs will roll out in early spring.

Deschutes Brewery and Bendistillery Release Black Butte Whiskey

Courtesy of Deschutes Brewing & Bendistillery
Collaboration of craft beverage masters creates a liquid intended to be timeless in taste and appreciation

21 September 2016 – Bend, Oregon – Deschutes Brewery and Bendistillery today announced the much anticipated launch of Black Butte Whiskey. Created over the past three years, this malt whiskey was double distilled from the wash of Deschutes Brewery’s flagship beer, Black Butte Porter. Available in very limited quantities, this sipping whiskey can be found starting today at the brewery’s two public houses, Bendistillery’s tasting room and Oregon liquor stores only.

Jim Bendis, founder of Bendistillery, said, “The origin of this project was nearly 20 years ago when I distilled and barreled a small batch of Deschutes’ Black Butte Porter beer as an experiment. We all kind of forgot about it until we ran across that original barrel when we moved the distillery. Tasting that spirit is what really inspired us to collaborate with Deschutes to produce a whiskey we could share with everybody. It brings happy tears to my eyes witnessing a 20-year-old dream come to fruition!”

Gary Fish, founder and CEO of Deschutes Brewery said, “The whiskey was more about an opportunity to innovate at a new level by elevating the beer and creating a very different product altogether. This is what can happen when you’re having fun and not bound by convention!”

Black Butte Whiskey was aged in new #4 char American oak barrels, and the resulting whiskey retains the malty, chocolatey notes of Black Butte Porter while gaining woody, earthy flavors from the oak. The body is full while the spirit drinks dry and clean. Ryan Schmiege, assistant brewmaster for Deschutes Brewery, said, “The base for this whiskey is very unusual because it is founded on a beer which is comprised of a lot of chocolate malts; not common for whiskey. I liked the challenges we had early on while learning to think, brew and ferment like distillers.”

The whiskey will be served neat or on the rocks at the Deschutes Brewery pubs in Bend and Portland starting today. Bottles are available at Bendistillery and Oregon liquor stores. Because a very limited amount is available, a future release for the next round of Black Butte Whiskey is slated for the end of 2017.
“I think the most exciting part of this project has been the public’s response. We have been able to sample and see how the whiskey develops over the years, so we know how good it is. But to see peoples’ eyes light up when they try it for the first time is the best part,” said Alan Dietrich, CEO of Bendistillery.
