Breakside Brewery Releases Rainbows & Unicorns

This beer’s tropical, summery goodness ensures a magical ride

April 25, 2018 – Portland, OR – Breakside Brewery announces the launch of Rainbows & Unicorns – the second in a series of four rotating IPAs in 2018. This session beer was originally created for the 2015 Oregon Brewers Fest and showcases two favorite hop varietals: Galaxy and Eldorado. Galaxy provides juicy notes that are reminiscent of peach and apricot, while Eldorado screams pineapple and lime zest. Breakside backs these up with a healthy dose of Comet hops, a heritage hop varietal, overlooked for many years and now gaining popularity again due to its intense stone fruit and citrus character. Also included in the summery brew are Two Row, Maris Otter, Flaked Rice and Light Crystal malts. Rainbows & Unicorns has an ABV of 5.1% and 32 IBUs.
“Rainbows & Unicorns toes the line between ‘juicier’ and ‘sweeter’ style of IPA and the more classic West Coast hoppy pales,” said Ben Edmunds, Brewmaster of Breakside Brewery. “Our team loves it for its clean, pure hop flavors. This one would be great at a backyard barbeque, paired with grilled octopus, smoked spare ribs or any spicy summer favorite.”
Breakside brews this beer in small batches and it will be released in limited quantities from April through mid-July of this year, staying ultra-fresh until it quickly disappears.  Look for it on draft and in 22 oz bottles.
About Breakside Brewery
Breakside Brewery opened in 2010 in Northeast Portland as a restaurant and pub brewery. The brewery is known for its innovative, experimental and diverse beers. Full Sail Releases Kentucky Cream Barrel Aged Pale Ale

Courtesy of Full Sail Brewing Co
Full Sail’s Kentucky Cream Showcases Classic American Bourbon Ingredients
Aging in Woodford Reserve casks lends this pale ale a warm, slightly spicy finish
Hood River, Oregon – May 10, 2017 – The brewmasters at Full Sail are celebrating the flavors and ingredients of classic American bourbon with the release of their Kentucky Cream Bourbon Barrel Aged Pale Ale. Brewed in February 2016 and aged for over a year in Woodford Reserve Bourbon, Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Bourbon, and Old Forester barrels, Kentucky Cream is a medium-bodied, honey-colored pale ale that’s smooth on the palate with a slightly spicy, warm finish.

“We looked to bourbon, the whiskey that made Kentucky famous, for this latest barrel aged release,” says Full Sail Brewmaster Jim Kelter. “Deconstructing this American classic, the grains most often used for bourbon (in this case corn, barley, and rye) were incorporated into a pale ale, racked post-ferment into bourbon barrels, and left to rest for one year.” The result is Kentucky Cream Bourbon Barrel Aged Pale Ale, with aromas of ripe cherries, vanilla and tobacco leaf and oak that lead to flavors of caramel, honey and dried fruit.

Wood barrel aging is an art form. When done right, it’s a wonderful thing. Full Sail brewers honor the barrel aging tradition by pouring creativity, innovation and passion into small, limited-release beers. Full Sail’s Brewmaster Reserve series highlights the direct connection with farmers, celebrates the art of barrel aging and explores the effects of time. Full Sail’s bourbon beers, carefully aged in bourbon casks, tempt patience and grow smoother and even more interesting with time. They cellar well, so store a few bottles in a dark, cool place and be patient, and you will be rewarded for your effort and restraint.

This special beer is brewed and racked in small batches, and is only available in limited quantities. Kentucky Cream Bourbon Barrel Aged Pale Ale is available this May just in time for American Craft Beer Week in limited release in 22 oz. bottles and draft. 10% ABV, 40 IBUs.

Widmer Brothers Brings Back Fan-Favorite Drifter Pale Ale

Courtesy of Widmer Brothers Brewing Co
What beer fans have been waiting for: Drifter Pale Ale available once again on draft, in six and 12-packs
PORTLAND, Ore. – April 26, 2017 – Drifter is back! Widmer Brothers Brewing is bringing back an old favorite, award-winning Drifter Pale Ale, which is now available in six and 12-packs of 12oz bottles as well as on draft.

The story of Drifter’s origins dates back to the innovative “W Series,” Widmer Brothers’ yearly experimental series of the mid-2000s. When the Widmer Brothers brewing team first started brewing with Summit hops as part of the series, they created a pale dubbed Brewmasters’ Pale that won a silver medal in the American-Style Pale Ale Category of the 2006 Great American Beer Festival (GABF). At the time, popular examples of the pale ale style were brewed primarily with Cascade hops, but “Brewmasters’ Pale” showcased Summit hops, a relatively new hop varietal at the time known for delicate undertones of tangerine, mandarin orange and grapefruit.

In 2009, the beer originally known as Brewmasters’ Pale, joined the year-round lineup as Drifter Pale Ale – fast becoming a favorite and one of Widmer Brothers’ most popular beers from Oregon to Florida.

“Like Widmer Brothers, Drifter has quite the tale of experimentation and innovation,” said brewer Joe Casey, who helped develop the original version of Drifter Pale Ale. “Rob and Kurt always push the boundaries of beer, and often zigged when others zagged. That was also the case here with the use of Summit hops and Drifter,” he added.

Despite its popularity, Widmer Brothers retired the beer in 2013 to pave the way for Alchemy Pale Ale, but fans made their voices heard in the ensuing years about their love of Drifter, and now Widmer Brothers is answering that demand by bring Drifter Pale Ale back as its new summer seasonal.

“We really felt that Drifter was unlike any other pale ale when it was first released,” said founder Rob Widmer. “The beer perfectly balances Summit’s unique hop profile that beer drinkers love without the lingering bitterness,” he added.

The latest version of Drifter will be instantly recognizable to its fans, says current brewmaster Tom Bleigh.

“When we first talked about bringing this beer back, we wanted to remain true to the original’s signature hop qualities,” said Tom Bleigh, Widmer Brothers’ innovation brewmaster. “The result is a  smooth, citrusy pale ale with the signature Drifter hop profile using those distinctive Summit hops – something Drifter fans will immediately recognize.”

To celebrate the return of the beloved beer, Widmer Brothers will host Drifter Days May 1-4 at its north Portland pub. Fans can expect festive Drifter-themed food pairings, Widmer Brothers swag giveaways and throwback pricing—3$/pint. The special pricing, an ode to the beer’s inception, will be available Monday through Wednesday during open hours at the pub, and culminate Thursday from 4-6pm.

In Portland, Henry’s Tavern (4-6pm on May 1), Dave and Busters (4-6pm on May 2), and Nob Hill Bar & Grill (4-6pm on May 3) will have special pricing on Drifter Pale Ale and Widmer Brothers swag giveaways.

About Widmer Brothers Brewing
Widmer Brothers Brewing helped create the Pacific Northwest craft beer movement in 1984 when founders Kurt and Rob Widmer, then in their 20s, began brewing unique interpretations of traditional German beer styles. In 1986, Widmer Brothers Brewing introduced the original American-style Hefeweizen, which elevated the brewery to national acclaim. Since then, the brewery’s iconic Hefe has grown to become Oregon’s favorite craft beer. For more than three decades, Widmer Brothers has continued to push the boundaries of craft beer. Based in Portland, Oregon, the brewery currently brews a variety of beers including Hefe, Upheaval IPA, Steel Bridge Porter, Drop Top Amber, PDX Pils, and a full seasonal lineup. Additionally, the brewery continues to make a series of limited edition, small-batch beers available in Oregon and at the Widmer Brothers Pub in North Portland. Full Sail has been sustainably brewing authentic craft beer using locally sourced ingredients since 1987, and Exit 63 Blonde Ale – in sunny, take-anywhere cans – is no exception.

Double Mountain Brewery Reusable Bottle Program

Courtesy of Double Mountain Brewery
The Double Mountain Program: Since 2013, our unique half liter bottles are made of thick walled glass, allowing them to be cleaned and reused many times. Empty bottles can be returned to the brewery, where they are cleaned, sanitized and refilled with beer. Reusable bottles are used across the globe as the most environmentally sustainable packaging for beverages. According to the 2012 Beverage Industry Environmental Round Table Report the carbon footprint of manufacturing, recycling and distribution of multiple use refillable glass bottles use 4 times less carbon than recycled (one-way) glass and 7 times less carbon than aluminum cans.

“We are excited to be a part of this bold environmentally sustainable program. Oregon is the perfect place to expand our current refillable bottle system and bring in more breweries to do the right thing.” Matt Swihart, Brewmaster

Thursday March 23rd 2017: In an ongoing effort to continue and expand our reusable bottle program, we have teamed up with Oregon Beverage Recycling Cooperative (OBRC) to collect Double Mountain bottles. Our combined efforts will increase collection capabilities by having several bottle drop redemption centers in addition to Double Mountain Brewery & Taproom locations, growing the return percentage of our bottles and softening the environmental impact. “Beer enthusiasts in Oregon know and care about the environment. Double Mountain and OBRC are embracing a reusable/refillable beer bottle that is the most sustainable way to drink great craft beer,” says Master Brewer Matt Swihart

Full Sail Brewing Releasing Session Lager in Cans

Courtesy of Full Sail Brewing Co
Hood River, Oregon – February 28, 2017 – Full Sail Brewing Co. is excited to announce – for the first time – Session Lager in 12 oz. aluminum cans. Session is a classic, all-malt lager that’s crisp, smooth, and refreshing, and now your après-singletrack Session, après-surf Session, après-ski Session, après-jam Session, après-anything Session comes in 6-pack and 15-pack cans.

“It’s the same award-winning lager, but now in a can,” says Full Sail Brewmaster Jim Kelter. “It feels as good in the hand as the iconic stubby, and it will go places where the bottle couldn’t.”

Session is synonymous with the old-school stubby bottle. So distinctive. So beloved. We love the stubby too, that’s for sure. But sometimes we want to take our Session to places bottles just shouldn’t go. Places where dropping your beloved Session would cause instant loss and unspeakable grief. Places where bare feet are a way of life. For those occasions and locations where you’d love to have a Session, just not in a glass bottle, Full Sail is thrilled to provide the new Session can.

When Full Sail launched the Session brand 12 years ago, it quickly became the hottest new craft-beer brand on the market, which has since brought home 100 medals, including 40 golds. Session’s not a micro, a macro, or an import, but in a way it’s a little bit of each. You see, virtually everyone who likes beer likes Session. It’s a brand that’s accessible without being ordinary. Totally drinkable, but never at the expense of character. And now, that same award-winning Session Lager is available year-round in 12 oz., take-anywhere cans, in 6-packs for yourself and in handy 15-packs to share with friends. Yes we can! 5.1% ABV, 18 IBUs.

BridgePort Brewing Releases New Year-Round Ale - Stumptown Oatmeal Red Ale

Courtesy of Bridgeport Brewing Co
Brewers Use Four Different Hops to Create the New Full-Flavored Oatmeal Red Ale

PORTLAND, Ore. – October 14, 2016BridgePort Brewing Company, Oregon’s original craft brewery, today announced the release of their newest year-round brew offering, Stumptown Oatmeal Red Ale (ORA). Channeling old school brewing from the 1980s, BridgePort Brewers used four separate hop varietals, Nuggets, Sterling, Cascade and Mt. Hood, in six separate hop additions during the brewing process.

This brew marks the first production beer for BridgePort in which the brewers added hops in the whirlpool as well as the first time they have dry-hopped 2lbs/bbl. In addition to the intense dry-hopping, ORA contains a judicious amount of flaked oatmeal, caramel malt, a specialty malt called Red-X, as well as another specialty malt, Midnight Wheat. The combination of these ingredients created a beer with a unique red hue and smooth mouthfeel.

“Everyone in the brewery is excited about this new addition to our family of beers,” states Jeff Edgerton, brewmaster at BridgePort Brewing. “This unique dry-hopped Oatmeal Red Ale really showcases the care and precision that went into brewing it. Anyone who enjoys full-flavored red ales will certainly want to try this one out.”

Stumptown Oatmeal Red Ale comes in at 5.6% ABV, 14.2% OG, and 48 IBU. The mixture of four hop varietals, flaked oatmeal and caramel malt created a subtle herbal and citrusy hop profile, balanced by a distinct caramel note. Available mid-October in 22oz. bottles, 12oz. six-packs, on-draft at BridgePort BrewPub in Portland, Ore. and where BridgePort is sold.

1 Brewmaster: 20,000 Brews By The Sea

Courtsey of Rogue Brewing

Rogue World Headquarters, Newport, OR (August 18, 2016) Today Rogue Ales Brewmaster John "More Hops" Maier is brewing his 20,000th batch of Rogue beer: "20,000 Brews by the Sea". In May of 1989, John arrived in the small coastal town of Newport just in time to create brew #1. 27 years and 20,000 brews later, John still rides his bike daily over the Yaquina Bay Bridge to the brewery where he continues to create innovative brews that have garnered international acclaim.

In classic John Maier fashion, 20,000 Brews by the Sea is not brewed to style but instead is described by John as a "complexity bomb" that honors this remarkable achievement. The beer uses 20 varieties of hops, 20 specialty malts, has a 20 year shelf life, will be brewed to 20 degrees plato, and will be bottle conditioned for 20 days.

"20,000 brews by one Brewmaster is an unprecedented achievement in the craft beer world and all of us in the Rogue family are amazed by John's dedication, passion, work ethic, skill, creativity, and all around awesomeness," said Rogue President Brett Joyce.

Courtesy of Rogue Brewing
"This is a monumental brew in my career and I'm going to have a blast making it," prosted John this morning before he began to make 20,000 Brews by the Sea.

John graduated in 1986 from the Siebel Institute, was named National Homebrewer of the Year in 1988 for his Old Crustacean Barleywine recipe, received the Brewers' Association inaugural Russell Scherer Award in 1997, and worked at Alaskan Brewery where he created their renowned Smoked Porter. When John isn't brewing he's likely to be listening to Jazz, riding one of his seven bicycles, walking his Curly Coated Retrievers, or traveling the world with his wife Stacey.

20,000 Brews by the Sea will be available beginning on October 20th in limited quantities at Rogue Meeting Halls.

Founded in 1992, the Oregon Brewers Guild is one of the nation’s oldest craft brewers associations. The Guild, which receives no state funding, comprises 154 brewing companies, 122 associate or supplier members and more than 3,500 enthusiast members or S.N.O.B.s (Supporters of Native Oregon Beer). Attendees can expect a variety of family-friendly activities and events, entertainment, food pairings, and more. Brewery tours will be hosted at 12:30PM, 2PM, and 5PM. A special day-of menu will be available including beer floats in collaboration with our neighbor, Salt and Straw. More than 10 unique beers will be available to taste, including our much hyped IPAs, experimental stouts and more (see full beer lineup below).
Great Notion officially rebranded the legacy Mash Tun Brewpub space on January 1, 2016. Brewers James Dugan and Andy Miller have been hard at work ever since, brewing barrel-aged sours, juicy IPAs, and experimental beers.
“We have been so overwhelmed with the positive reaction from the community, and we are excited to share even more of our beers with all of Portland,” said Paul Reiter, co-founder of Great Notion.
For more information on the Grand Beer Release, and to RSVP, click here.  To learn more about Great Notion, visit www.greatnotionpdx.com, or follow the brewery on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Great Notion Brewing is located next to Pine State Biscuits at 2204 NE Alberta St. #101, Portland, OR 97211.

Beer Name
ABV
Description
Double Stack
8.5
Double Stack is a Breakfast Stout aged on a ridiculous amount of Vermont maple syrup and locally roasted coffee beans.
El Chapo
7.7
Dark and dangerous, this Mexican-inspired Stout is aged on pasilla & anjeo peppers, cinnamon, chocolate and vanilla beans.
Juice Jr.
5
The little brother of Juice Box Double IPA. Juice Jr. is brewed with 100% Mosaic hops, and a lot of them! This crushable Session IPA has a small ABV and a big hop flavor.
Juice Box
8.2
Juice Box developed quite a local following while we were home brewing. Bursting with pungent American hops, with aromas of peach, mango, and passion fruit. Juice Box is brewed with over 4 pounds of hops per barrel, but the creamy smooth mouth feel and mellow bitterness make this Double IPA dangerously drinkable.
Merry Dankster
8.2
The Merry Dankster is our tribute to Ken Kesey and his Merry band of Pranksters. At 8.2%, this Double IPA is saturated with hop flavor. It's dry hopped with over 3 pounds per barrel & fermented with local wild flower honey. We get slammed with notes of pineapple, pine, and that stinky dank goodness! "Never trust a Prankster"
Ripe IPA
7
Bringing a bit of Vermont to Portland. Citra hops combined with a legendary NE yeast stain gives Ripe its unique flavor and aroma. This juicy IPA has notes of mango, papaya and pineapple, with a smooth dry finish.
Root Beard
6.5
Root Beard is our dark cream ale aged on a unique blend of herbs including wintergreen, sarsaparilla, birch bark, licorice root, and Vanilla. We back sweeten Root Beard with local wild flower honey.
Saison Blanc
5.5
Saison married with Sauvignon Blanc grapes, pears and kiwis.
Stamper Stout
7.7
In our tribute to Henry Stamper, the old and half-crazed patriarch whose motto was “Never Give an Inch!,” Stamper Stout will warm your belly after a long Oregon Winter day. Settle into rich notes of coffee, chocolate and a gentle roast.
Zest
5
Great Notion Brewing's take on a German style Berliner Weisse. The lemony tartness in this refreshing wheat beer comes from a two stage fermentation with Lactobacillus and brettanomyces. ZEST is the beer that will guide Portland into Spring!
Coffee & Cream
6.5
We aged this Cream Ale on specially roasted whole bean Columbian coffee in partnership with Clutch Coffee Roasters. It's a one of a kind brew and a unique flavor experience.
Blueberry Muffin
5
A tart beer made with real blueberry muffins and locally sourced blueberries from Sauvie Island. Fermented with lacto bacillus and wild yeast, this beer will remind you of your mother's freshly baked blueberry muffins.
