BridgePort Brewing Releases New Imperial Russian Stout - Siren's Sound

Courtesy of Bridgeport Brewing Co
PORTLAND, Ore. – November 1, 2016BridgePort Brewing Company, Oregon’s original craft brewery today announced the release of Siren’s Sound, an Imperial Russian Stout, available in bottles and on-draft in November. With leaves changing and rain falling, this big stout is the perfect dark beer to ring in this season in the Pacific Northwest.

Siren’s Sound was brewed to be a little devious, just like the Sirens of lore. BridgePort’s brewers used a monstrous amount of De-bittered Black Malt, Midnight Wheat, and roasted barley to create a beer with a huge flavor profile and a sneaky 9.0% ABV and 75 IBU. Bringing balance to the brew, brewers used Sterling Hops in the kettle and finished off the beer with a dry hop dose of Mt. Hood’s for a special twist on this Imperial Russian Stout.

“For our big brews, we really enjoy making balanced beers with big, complex flavor profiles,” states Jeff Edgerton, Brewmaster of BridgePort Brewing Company. “Our brewers outdid themselves with this one – it’s definitely one of my favorites. I highly recommend grabbing a couple bottles of Siren’s Sound for a family gathering where you can sit around and really enjoy the beer and the company.”

In addition to the new Siren’s Sound, BridgePort’s distinctive holiday brew, Ebenezer Ale, is back for the 17th year. Derived from four different roasted malts and a blend of local and imported hops, Ebenezer is a strong ale complemented by a smooth complex palate. Pour Ebenezer in your glass and you’ll experience a full-bodied, deep mahogany colored brew with a malty first taste that finishes with delicious caramel notes.

Siren’s Sound and Ebenezer Ale is available in limited quantities on-draft and in 22oz. bombers at BridgePort BrewPub (1313 NW Marshall St., Portland, Ore.) and where BridgePort is sold in the Pacific Northwest.

Bridgeport Brewing Releases New Fresh Hopped Beer

Courtesy of Bridgeport Brewing Co
2016 Hop Harvest Red IPA Features Crosby Hop Farm Amarillo® Hops
Portland, Ore. – September 22, 2016BridgePort Brewing Company, Oregon’s original craft brewery, released today the newest beer in the lineup, Hop Harvest Red IPA. Taking advantage of the available hop bounty in Oregon, BridgePort Brewing partnered with Crosby Hop Farm in Woodburn, Ore. and chose their Amarillo® hop varietal. Originating from Virgil Gamach Farms in Yakima Valley, Washington, Crosby Hop Farm is the only Oregon farm licensed to grow and sell this unique hop.

On September 1, BridgePort Brewmaster Jeff Edgerton and his team of brewers took a trip out to Crosby Hop Farm and picked up 250 pounds of fresh hops. Immediately, the team returned to the brewery, located in the Pearl District of Portland, and dumped the hops into the fermenter tanks. The fermented beer was then poured over the Amarillo® hops, capturing that fresh hop flavor and aroma.

“We’re lucky to brew so close to where hops are grown as it allows us to start the fresh-hop process almost immediately after they are picked from the bines,” states Jeff Edgerton, Brewmaster of BridgePort Brewing Company. “This year we chose a very distinctive hop, the Amarillo®, which has a unique floral/citrus aroma that has helped create an exceptional fresh hopped IPA. All of us here at BridgePort are thankful to Crosby Hop Farm for growing such a phenomenal hop!”

Bridgeport Brewing Releasing Bridgeport Cream Ale

BRIDGEPORT BREWING’S NEWEST YEAR-ROUND BREW FEATURES THREE HOP VARIETALS

A Bright and Refreshing Take On A Classic Light Ale, BridgePort’s First Cream Ale

PORTLAND, Ore. – May 16, 2016 – BridgePort Brewing Company, Oregon’s oldest craft brewery, announced today the release of the newest brew to join their year-round line up of beers, BridgePort Cream Ale. Currently hitting shelves in the Pacific Northwest, Cream Ale will begin rolling out to additional BridgePort markets starting June 1.

“We’ve been looking to introduce another lighter beer to the BridgePort roster for awhile now. After some testing, our unique take on a traditional Cream Ale was the perfect style to introduce,” states brewmaster Jeff Edgerton. “In the recipe, we used three hop varietals including Nugget and Meridian. We then used Yakima Valley Mosaic hops, added in the hopjack to create notes of tropical fruit and sweet grape. Locally, this beer has been a big hit with our fans and we’re excited to see what everyone else thinks as well.”

Our brewers started off with Great Western 2-row Pale Ale malt and then added generous amounts of malted wheat and flaked oats, yielding a pale gold brew. Cream Ale comes in at a sessionable 4.8% alcohol by volume, low bitterness, and finishes with slightly sweet fruit notes and a creamy mouthfeel from the added specialty malt, Carafoam.

BridgePort Brewing released Cream Ale in February as a test brew, available exclusively at the Portland-based BrewPub and select locations in Oregon. The local response was extremely positive and now, BridgePort’s Cream Ale will be available in 6-packs, 22 oz. bottles and on draft where BridgePort Brewing is sold.

Bridgeport Brewing Releases Limited-Edition Stumptown Tart

Courtesy of Bridgeport Brewing Co
PORTLAND, Ore. – October 29, 2015BridgePort Brewing Company’s STUMPTOWN Tart is back for the second time in 2015 and she’s loaded with berries that have a local history. This Belgian Style Ale is brewed with marionberries from Marion County, Oregon giving the brew its signature fruit tartness with a touch of sweetness.

“STUMPTOWN Tart is an iconic beer for us at BridgePort Brewing and we all love it,” says Brewmaster Jeff Edgerton. “We came across Willamette Valley marionberries from Stahlbush Farms in Corvallis, Ore. and the selection was too good not to use in our beloved Tart. For this brew, we used a Belgian Wit yeast and Czech Saaz hops giving the beer a slight bitterness and pleasant fruity base that melds perfectly with the berry flavor.”

Bridgeport Brewing Releasing New Year Round Beer "STUMPTOWN CandyPeel IPA"

Courtesy of Bridgeport Brewing Co
As Unique as the City That Inspired it, STUMPTOWN CandyPeel is a Fresh Twist on an IPA

PORTLAND, Ore. – October 16, 2015 – BridgePort Brewing Company, Oregon’s oldest craft brewery, proudly announced today the newest brew in their year-round portfolio, STUMPTOWN CandyPeel IPA.

Portland, the city that started it all for BridgePort Brewing Company, was once known as Stumptown and is now the inspiration behind this new, bold recipe. Brewed with three types of hops, Styrian Golding, Centennial, and Crystal, this is a hop-forward, full-flavor IPA. Styrian Golding hops, the cornerstone of this brew, are added at the end of boil to capture the candy-orange quality and aroma. This flavor-profile is complemented with a dash of orange peel. Vienna malt is used to add a slightly sweet taste and perfect balance providing your taste buds with a fresh-twist to the traditional IPA.

“We’re the oldest brewery, not just craft brewery, in Oregon. With that in mind, we are creating a new line of beers that take us back to our roots as brewers of bold, unique beers,” stated Brewmaster Jeff Edgerton. “STUMPTOWN CandyPeel IPA delivers that true IPA flavor with a twist of citrus. Using three different types of hops, Vienna malt, and a hint of orange peel, this brew is complex, well balanced, and perfect year-round”.

Hop Harvest 2015 – Fresh Hopped From Farm To Brew

Courtesy of Bridgeport Brewing
From Bine To Brew In Under One Hour

Portland, Ore. – September 24, 2015 – For the crew at BridgePort Brewing Company, Oregon’s oldest craft brewery, early fall is their favorite time of year.  It’s only then that they get to drive to the hop fields of the Willamette Valley to collect fresh Oregon aroma hops to make the annual special treat, Hop Harvest fresh hop ale. In under an hour, hops from Sodbuster Farms in Salem, Ore. are picked and added to the brew, ensuring an extremely fresh hopped IPA.

“Getting those fresh green hops into the beer as quickly as possible ensures that fresh hop flavor that we all love this time of year,” commented Jeff Edgerton, Brewmaster of BridgePort Brewing Company. “For 2015, we’ve brewed a classic IPA style beer and infused it with more than 250lbs of fresh Crystal hops per brew; giving the brew a soft citrus aroma and flavor unlike anything you can get from dried hops.”

BridgePort uses a simple process to give this seasonal, limited-release beer the freshest hop flavor. First, the beer is brewed, then at the end of fermentation and immediately after the hops are delivered, the freshly fermented beer is poured straight over the green Crystal hops, capturing that fresh, local flavor. Hop Harvest 2015 will be available on draft and in 22 oz. bottles at BridgePort’s BrewPub and participating retailers.

BRIDGEPORT BREWING AND TRIMET ANNOUNCE PARTNERSHIP AND OFFICIAL BEER OF TILIKUM CROSSING – TILIKUM CROSSING ORANGE LINE IPA

Today, on Tilikum Crossing, Congressman Blumenauer and BridgePort Brewing Cheers Over BridgePort’s Newest Beer

PORTLAND, Ore.August 11, 2015 —U.S. Congressman Earl Blumenauer and a brewer from BridgePort Brewing Company today proudly announced a partnership between BridgePort Brewing and TriMet. BridgePort Brewing, Oregon’s oldest craft brewery, released their newest beer, Tilikum Crossing Orange Line IPA, to celebrate the newest bridge in Portland.

Courtesy Bridgeport Brewing Co
Tilikum Crossing, Bridge of the People, is the first bridge of its kind in the U.S., carrying MAX light rail and Portland Streetcar trains, buses, bicyclists and pedestrians, but no private vehicles. Tilikum Crossing is part of TriMet’s MAX Orange Line that opens on Sept. 12, 2015 between Downtown Portland, South Waterfront, SE Portland, Milwaukie and North Clackamas County. TriMet asked BridgePort to create a special beer for the new Orange Line because it was a natural fit – they were the first craft brewery in Oregon and Tilikum Crossing is also the first of its kind.

In that spirit, Tilikum Crossing Orange Line IPA is the first White IPA BridgePort has ever brewed. Dry-hopped with Lemondrop hops for aroma, this beer is made with 25% wheat, giving the beer a hazy light color. This new brew also uses Belgium yeast and is infused with orange peel, delivering a slightly sweet, lighter and more refreshing take on an IPA. The beer is available for Portlanders to enjoy on draft or in 22oz. bombers.

“The whole city is excited for the opening of this bridge, so you can imagine how honored we felt when TriMet asked us to brew the official beer,” commented Jeff Edgerton, BridgePort brewmaster. “Our team thought a lot about the actual visuals of Tilikum Crossing, specifically, the white-coloring of the bridge and TriMet’s Orange Line that will cross over the Willamette. With that in mind, we also wanted to make a beer for the people, since ‘Tilikum’ means ‘of the People’.”

To celebrate the September opening of the Orange Line and of Tilikum Crossing, its official beer will be served at events starting August 19.

·       Tilikum Crossing Orange Line IPA Launch Party held at BridgePort Brew Pub | August 19, time TBD
·       MAX Orange Line Fireworks Spectacular held at Zidell Yards  | August 22, 5:00p – 10:00p
·       First Light held at Zidell Yards | September 10, 6:00p – 10:00p

BridgePort’s Big Brew, Stumptown Tart, Features Northwest Raspberries

PORTLAND, Ore.May 8, 2015BridgePort Brewing Company’s own pin-up gal and Stumptown Tart, Bernie Dexter, is back on shelves for its eighth year. While the past eight years have celebrated popular berry combinations, this year’s brew brings the focus back on a northwest favorite – the raspberry.

“It’s hard to believe that we have been making this beer for eight years now,” commented brewmaster, Jeff Edgerton. “We knew it was only a matter of time before we would want to bring back a fan favorite like the rasp

Available in limited quantities, this year’s Stumptown Tart is a Belgian Style Ale infused with northwest grown raspberries. Since the initial release of a raspberry infused Stumptown Tart, the fermentation process of this ale has evolved to deliver a subtle, yet noticeable, Belgian yeast characteristic. Oregon State receives $1 million gift for research brewery

Revised Press Release:
CORVALLIS, Ore. (April 17, 2015 ) – Oregon State University’s fermentation science program has received a $1 million gift from Carlos Alvarez, the chairman and chief executive officer of The Gambrinus Company, a San Antonio-based beer company that owns BridgePort Brewing Company in Portland, Oregon; the Spoetzl Brewery in Shiner, Texas; and the Trumer Brewery in Berkeley, California.

Faculty and students (left) from Oregon State University's Food Science and Technology Department celebrate a $1 million gift from Carlos Alvarez (center), the chairman and CEO of The Gambrinus Co., with brewmasters (right) from BridgePort, Trumer and Spoetzl breweries. Photo by Jordan McDonnell.
The gift from Alvarez will fund the purchase of a new research brewery to be housed in Oregon State’s Wiegand Hall Pilot Plant Facility, where fermentation science students participate in each step of the brewing and packaging process.

“We are incredibly grateful and excited about building on this great relationship with BridgePort and Gambrinus,” said Tom Shellhammer, OSU’s Nor’Wester Professor of Fermentation Science. “At Oregon State we are very proud to offer students a ‘grain-to-glass’ education that covers every aspect of the beer-making process. Furthermore, we carry out cutting-edge, globally-relevant brewing science research.

“This state-of-the-art facility will allow us to provide an experiential education that is truly world-class, while also enhancing research that benefits industry,” Shellhammer added.

Oregon State’s collaborative relationship with BridgePort spans more than 15 years. Most recently, Shellhammer, OSU fermentation science students, and BridgePort brewmaster and OSU alumnus Jeff Edgerton collaborated on a session brown ale that won a gold medal at the European Beer Star competition in Germany.

Alvarez is a graduate of the Monterrey Institute of Technology in Monterrey, Mexico, with a degree in biochemical engineering. After working as export manager for Grupo Modelo and taking Corona to the U.S., Alvarez founded The Gambrinus Company in 1986 and became U.S. importer for Corona and other Modelo brands for the next 20 years.

In 1989, he acquired and revitalized the Spoetzl Brewery in Shiner, Texas, now the fourth largest craft brewery in the U.S. with Shiner Bock as its leading brand. Alvarez subsequently acquired BridgePort Brewing Company in 1995 and founded the Trumer Brewery in Berkeley, California, in 2004.

An ardent supporter of education, Alvarez has contributed to educational institutions across the U.S. with a particular focus on scholarship funding. Among other volunteer leadership roles, he served several years on the board of trustees for Davidson College in North Carolina.

“I am very pleased to support Oregon State’s fermentation science program and its outstanding students, who represent so much promise as future craft brewers,” Alvarez said. “I am particularly excited to be able to fund this project and give back to the industry that built my business.”

Oregon State is one of only two universities in the nation offering undergraduate and graduate level degrees in fermentation science that lead to a career in the brewing industry. Housed within the Department of Food Science and Technology, one of the oldest and top-ranked food science programs in the U.S., the program attracts students from across the country and around the world who hope to enter the craft brewing market. Three out of four students in the department are fermentation science majors.

When construction is finished, the new research brewery funded by Alvarez’s gift will be named in his honor.

PORTLAND, Ore.January 28, 2015BridgePort Brewing Company, Oregon’s oldest craft brewery, proudly announced today the newest beer in its year-round line-up: Conviction Pale Ale, available now.

Throughout 2014, BridgePort fans had the chance to try each of the three Trilogy beers, created to celebrate the brewery’s 30th anniversary. At the end of the year, they placed their vote for which beer should come back as a year-round brew in 2015. Trilogy 1, a crystal dry-hopped pale ale, was the clear fan favorite and is now back on shelves in 2015 as Conviction Pale Ale.

Courtesy of Bridgeport Brewing Co

“Last year, we came out with a record number of new beers for people to try. Don’t get me wrong, our team loves experimenting, but it’s also nice to have a beer that we all feel confident serving up to our fans throughout the seasons,” commented brewmaster Jeff Edgerton. “A large part of that confidence comes from the fact that Conviction was the fan-favorite so we know our fans already stand behind it.”

Conviction Pale Ale is an easy-to-drink, dry hopped pale ale that celebrates the incredible bounty of hops that come from Oregon’s Willamette Valley. The soft malt flavor and light body associated with pale ales  make them the perfect base for showcasing the Crystal hop, a favorite  amongst BridgePort brewers. The presence of Rye malt gives this beer a slightly spicy malt character and the Munich malts add a soft mouth feel.

Bridgeport Brewing Takes Home Gold From European Beer Star

Trilogy 3 Brewers’ Class earns international recognition for beer created in collaboration with students from Oregon State University
Press Release:
PORTLAND, Ore.—  BridgePort Brewing Company, Oregon’s oldest craft brewery, announced today that Trilogy 3 Brewers’ Class, the final beer in Bridgeport’s 30 year anniversary series, won Gold at The European Beer Star award. Conceived as a sessionable brown ale, Trilogy 3 Brewers’ Class was jointly designed by students enrolled in the Fermentation Science Program at Oregon State University, program director Dr. Thomas Shellhammer, and BridgePort brewmaster Jeff Edgerton.

“As an Oregon State alum, I jumped at the opportunity to partner with these students to create Trilogy 3 Brewers’ Class,” comments BridgePort Brewmaster, Jeff Edgerton. “When we were coming up with ideas for the beer, I couldn’t help but think about how the future of brewing in Oregon, and in the United States, was likely in that room. We’ve known it was a world-class beer all along the way, but it’s great to be validated by a committee of international experts.”

(From L to R) Jeff Edgerton, Brewmaster with BridgePort Brewing Company, is joined by the students that worked on Trilogy 3 as well as Program Director, Dr. Thomas Shellhammer.
This year’s European Beer Star tasting competition held in Gräfelfing, Germany attracted 1,613 entries, from 42 countries. Judged by a 105-person jury consisting of master brewers, beer sommeliers and recognized beer experts; each beer was judged based on color, aroma, taste aroma profile and general impression.

Research Brewery and Pilot Plant Manager for the OSU Food Science Department, Jeff Clawson (left center) accepts the award alongside  Ryan Howe (right center) , a Post-Baccalaureate student working on his second BS degree in Fermentation Science and (of, course) one of the students that helped design Trilogy 3.
BridgePort fans still have a chance to try Trilogy 3 Brewers' Class on its own or in the Voter's Box Variety Pack alongside the other two contenders. Fans have had the chance vote for their favorite beer in the Trilogy Series over the past months and a winner will be announced in late November. Vote For Your Favorite Trilogy Beer From Bridgeport Brewing

2014 is the 30th Anniversary of Bridgeport Brewing. 30 years in anything is impressive, but 30 years in the brewing world is quite the achievement.  For its 30th year,  Bridgeport Brewmaster Jeff Edgerton created the Trilogy series, three very different beers.  Now that the end of the year is coming up quick they are asking fans to pick their favorite of the trilogy line and then vote online here, or on Instagram (post with #BPTrilogy1, #BPTrilogy2 or #BPTrilogy3).
Emily and I both personally liked Trilogy #1 and voted for it to go into year round production. If you haven't voted yet and have tried all three of the beers, make sure to vote. If you haven't tried all three get down to the store and pick them up and give them a try and then vote.

Clear disclosure: Samples of the Trilogy Series were sent to Freshpints.com. Thanks Bridgeport.
