Victory Brewing Company Releases Oktoberfest Lager Festbier

Downingtown, PA, September 7, 2016Victory Brewing Company announces the return of Festbier, an Oktoberfest amber lager for it’s 20th season. A full-bodied, rich amber lager brewed in the tradition of German Oktoberfest lagers, Festbier made its debut in 1996 as the first beer ever brewed by Victory and has been delighting fans for two decades. Traditional German brewing techniques paired with European ingredients transports drinkers to Oktoberfest.

Subtly sweet with a delicate malt nose, Festbier gains its impressive body from all imported German malts and decoction brewing process, a traditional technique in central European brewing which produces the deliciously malty flavors for which German beers are best known. Seductively malty—two-row Vienna and Munich German malts—with a kiss of whole flower German hops for balance, leads to the crisp, dry characteristics of a true German Oktoberfest lager. Crafted for full flavor and carefully aged for depth of character, Festbier is full-bodied while smooth. Available from late summer through autumn, Festbier has an ABV of 5.6% and a suggested retail price of approximately $9.99 for six 12-ounce bottles.

“Festbier has a special place in my heart, as it expresses the purpose of beer, as a source of comfort and conviviality, so well,” said Founder and Brewmaster, Bill Covaleski. “It was the very first beer we ever brewed at Victory. We knew we wanted to create a true Oktoberfest lager and the pride I have in that first beer still powers me, and all our brewers, to continue to create good, thoughtfully crafted beers that will not only quench the thirst of our fans, but make every dinner, party or chat with a friend over a pint that much more enjoyable.”

Beer Mail:Ninkasi Brewing's Venn and Oktoberfest

A couple of weeks back freshpints.com received beer mail from Ninkasi Brewing. Samples included Venn, a Dortmund-style lager from Ninkasi's Prismatic Lager series and Oktoberfest, a Festbier Lager, from Ninkasi's Seasonal release series.

Since it's more fun to share samples than just sample alone, I tried to gather local friends to share the Venn and Oktoberfest....but it was not to be, as everyone was too busy to gather for beer....I know...crazy. So instead, last weekend my parents had a little get together with some family and I decided, perfect occasion! We'd do a little family-style beer mail sampling.

Being the type of person I am and therefore wanting to control how I shared the samples, I actually packed in my own set of eight tasting glasses. I'm convinced this made a positive difference, though the beer is good regardless of serving vessel.

Samplers this time included my mom and dad, my aunt and uncle visiting from Seattle, my brother and his girlfriend up from Corvallis, and Emily and me of course.

First sample was the Oktoberfest. This one got great reviews from our "tasting panel."  It was a crisp fall day, we were eating chili and cornbread, and this was a very fine accompaniment.  It was nice and malty but not too sweet with a nice very mild hop flavor as well.

Next we broke out the Venn.  This is a great Lager, very light and clean, well balanced.  This was also popular with our crew, who noted, slight citrus and grassy hop aroma and slightly bready or biscuit and citrus and grassy flavor's. It's very drinkable and mellow; it would be easy to enjoy a few.

Ninkasi Brewing Celebrates Fall With Two New Seasonal beers

NINKASI BREWING COMPANY CELEBRATES FALL’S HARVEST WITH NEW SEASONAL RELEASE, THIRD PRISMATIC LAGER RELEASE

Press Release:
EUGENE, Ore.—Aug. 13 2014—With the approach of the harvest and cooler fall weather, Ninkasi Brewing Company announces two lagers that are rooted in European tradition and celebrate the incredible ingredients of the Pacific Northwest. Oktoberfest, the newest addition to Ninkasi’s Seasonal Release Series, and Venn, the third Prismatic Lager Series release of the year, capture all that the region has to offer: some of the purest water in the Continental United States and Northwest-grown hops.

Available September through October, Oktoberfest is a Festbier lager crafted to honor the region’s great bounty. “Festbier is a unique Bavarian lager that’s made around the harvest time, similar to an Oktoberfest, but it has what German brewers consider to have a more hoppy presence,” explains Jamie Floyd, founding brewer and co-founder of Ninkasi. “Oktoberfest has a darker hue than most lagers and a toasty malt flavor with a sweet impression up front paired with an earthy and grassy hop flavor.” Brewed with hops grown in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, these hops were selected to impart the earthy, grassy flavor of traditional German hops.

Venn, available September through December, is a balanced Dortmund-style lager providing a deliciously easy drinking option for the crisper months ahead. “The most important characteristic of this style is its balance,” says Floyd. “All ingredients must be in perfect harmony, giving the beer a Noble hop bitterness with a rounded, sweet malt flavor.”

Both beers will be available throughout Ninkasi’s distribution footprint: Oregon; Washington; Idaho; Montana; California; Alaska; Nevada; and Vancouver, British Columbia.
