Ecliptic Brewing Takes Home Gold at the 2016 Oregon Beer Awards

Oregon Craft Beer Icon John Harris Awarded Two Medals

PORTLAND, Ore. (March 1, 2016)–John Harris, owner and brewmaster at Ecliptic Brewing, has a 30-year history of brewing Oregon craft beer.  On February 23rd his craftsmanship was honored with two medals at the Oregon Beer Awards.  Ecliptic Brewing took home gold for Capella Porter in the “Stout or Porter” category and bronze for Orange Giant Barleywine in the “Dark Hoppy Beer” category.

“Porter has always been a favorite style of mine,” said Harris.  “The idea behind Capella came from my many years of crafting beer, one being Black Butte Porter, and I am honored to have Capella Porter recognized by my brewing peers as the finest porter in Oregon.”

These awards come on the tail of two other recent accomplishments for Ecliptic Brewing.  The 2016 Best of Craft Beer Awards awarded Harris and his team Gold for Orange Giant Barleywine and Silver for Spica Pilsner.

Capella Porter
Gold Medal, Stout or Porter
Capella Porter is named after a bright star in the constellation Auriga.  Sweet dark malt aromas are followed by a nice medium body.  Flavors of chocolate and caramel meld with just a touch of roast.  A collection of American hops (Nugget, Chinook, Centennial and Cascade) brighten this lively porter.  This beer is available as part of Ecliptic Brewing's All the Time Beers.
ABV: 5.2%
IBU: 39
GRAVTY: 14.5°P

Orange Giant Barleywine
Bronze Medal, Dark Hoppy Beers
Named after the giant orange stars in the sky, this barleywine has a gratifying warming effect and drinks smooth.  Three malts create a hearty malt profile with robust character.  Copious amounts of Chinook and Nugget hops combine for a nice resin hop flavor.  Orange Giant is perfect for aging in your cellar.  This beer is available as part of Ecliptic Brewing’s Special Release Series.
ABV: 12.5%
IBU: 80
