Alaskan Brewing Presents New Frontier Variety Pack

Courtesy of Alaskan Brewing Co
JUNEAU, Alaska (March 28, 2018) – Beer drinkers will soon see a new variety 12-pack from Alaskan Brewing, one which revolutionizes the sampler pack phenomenon. Take a peek inside the box with the Frontier Pack’s interactive window feature, which allows interested shoppers a chance to see, touch, turn – everything but taste the rotating beer styles inside the pack. These beer-viewing windows provide the opportunity for consumers to pinpoint exactly which rotating styles are included.

“Humans are curious by nature, and we’ve all really enjoyed working on a project and packaging that allows that curiosity and creativity to flourish,” said Tasha Heumann, Brand Coordinator at Alaskan Brewing. “The interactive nature of the window feature is super fun and cool, and definitely filled a need that we saw. People want to be able to see what beer they’re getting inside a variety pack, and it’s exciting and a lot of fun to get that interaction going before the beer has even left the store.”

Each Frontier Pack will include staples Alaskan Amber and Icy Bay IPA, along with two other styles. The first, a limited-edition style, will be a limited release beer only available for a short time, and could be a fan favorite, a new style, or an experimental brew. What’s found in one pack may not be seen in the next due to the limited nature of these styles. The other, a brewers’ choice style, will be an exclusive brew selected by one of Alaskan’s team of brewers, who will handpick their favorite beer of the moment to be included in the pack.

“We all love trying fun, different beers, and wanted to figure out a way to give people that variety that we love and make sure there’s something for everyone, while allowing the them more freedom of choice,” said Scott McHenry, Alaskan Brewer. “Putting limited edition beers in here means we get to be creative and play around with styles some, or bring back fan favorites from years past. Having a brewers’ choice beer in the Frontier Pack really gives people the chance to get inside our heads a little bit, to see what beer we’re all about right now. Every brewer has those beers that they’re totally crazy about, so this is a fun way to share a little window into who we are and what we love.”

The Frontier Pack will be available in participating markets at the end of March.

Alaskan Brewing Company Taps New CEO

Courtesy of Alaskan Brewing Co
JUNEAU, Alaska (May 11, 2016) – Alaskan Brewing Company’s long-time Chief Operations Officer, Linda Thomas, has been named the new CEO, while the founders of the company, Geoff and Marcy Larson, are looking forward to dedicating more time towards building the pioneering legacy of Alaskan, focusing on innovation and the spirit of craft brewing.

“Alaskan Brewing is growing and exploring many opportunities, which pulls Geoff and I further afield,” said Co-Founder Marcy Larson.  “We really rely on Linda Thomas here at our home office, and feel moving her into the pivotal CEO position will give us more stability for solid future growth.  Linda has been excellent at providing organization and infrastructure to our management group, so it makes sense and we trust her to step into the lead slot here at the brewery.”

Geoff Larson will maintain his role as President and Chair of the Board, and will be sharing the “Beer Powered Beer” concept industry wide.  “This is a cutting edge use of the brewers spent grain that turns waste into fuel, and is revolutionary to the beer industry,” Larson stated.  “Additionally we want to showcase manufacturing successes in Alaska.”   Thomas noted that the Larson’s started Alaskan Brewing in the midst of a recession in Alaska in the mid-1980’s, and their ability to successfully weather the challenges of operating a nationally recognized regional craft brewery from the remote area of Juneau is a story that should resonate with today’s economic headwinds.

“Our brewery has so many opportunities to grow our leadership in the craft industry here in the U.S. and even internationally, and I’m excited to drive that train forward, while keeping to the core values and mission of Alaskan Brewing,” Thomas said. "We have met countless challenges of doing business in Alaska over the years, creating an internal strength and sense of pride in our company, and my goal is to have that success and pride continue for future generations of Alaskans and all stakeholders involved."

Geoff Larson stated that in Thomas’ 22 years with Alaskan, she has been instrumental in developing a financially sound company, ranked in the top 1% of the over 4,000 breweries in the U.S. in 2015 according to the Brewer’s Association. She led the development of the brewery’s Employee Stock Ownership Program, or ESOP, and has fostered a talented and highly dedicated crew that is poised to build on the strong foundation for this remote craft brewery based in Alaska.

In addition to her own adventuresome and pioneering spirit that comes with being a lifelong Alaskan, Thomas has a long history of community and professional involvement in Alaska.  She has served as President of the Bartlett Regional Hospital Board, Big Brothers Big Sisters Board of Juneau, and the Juneau Chamber of Commerce Board.  She has co-chaired the State Board of Accountancy, serves on a bank board established in Alaska and was appointed as a National Quality Examiner by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce.  In 2007, she was recognized as the Juneau Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year.  She holds a BBA in Accounting from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and is a licensed CPA.

It’s all in an effort to bring the Last Frontier closer to people who want to Live Life Alaskan.

Alaskan Brewing Now Selling Cans in “Lower 48” Markets

Alaskan Brewing Now Selling Cans in “Lower 48” Markets
Two varieties available in all 17 states of distribution, Icy Bay IPA now in Alaska only

Press Release:

JUNEAU, Alaska (April 10, 2015) – Alaskan Brewing Company began shipping cans to all 17 states of distribution this month, and added another product to their existing can selection in Alaska. The introduction of cans to the rest of the Alaskan product lineup could prove an important step in the growth of Alaskan’s footprint.

“We brew and package our beer in Juneau.  Because we have no roads that connect us to the rest of the world, and because of the remote location of Alaska the shipping costs are always one of our primary concerns,” said Curtis Holmes, Plant Manager at Alaskan Brewing Co. “With cans being so much lighter in weight, we can see the potential of that allowing us to broaden our territories in the future.”

Holmes said cans are also a key part of allowing fans of the brewery to “Live Life Alaskan” by enjoying the great outdoors without lugging around the extra weight or having the risk of breakage that bottles bring. “Cans are just so convenient when you want to throw some beer in a cooler to relax with at the end of an adventure  – it has been great to enjoy our beer in cans here in Alaska and now we are excited to have the rest of our customers enjoy the same benefits.”

Alaskan Brewing installed a new state-of-the-art canning line in April 2014 that emphasized the importance of the quality of the beer.  They first began packaging Alaskan Amber and Freeride APA for sale in Alaska only. After a very successful in-state run, Alaskan is now offering those two varieties to the rest of their markets. In addition, Alaskan began canning Icy Bay IPA this month, with immediate sale of that variety available in Alaska only.
“We have a very dedicated fan base here in Alaska, so it is an ideal training ground for new varieties and packages of beer,” said Holmes. “We think Icy Bay IPA in a can is going to be a big hit – and if that proves true in Alaska, then the rest of our territories can expect to see it soon.”

Alaskan can fanatics participated in a photo contest last year that was so popular the brewery is running it again this year.
